Could be a blessing in disguise as the infection may have been there longer than thought and interferred with his healing. Prayers that this is the answer.

Bless his heart. I will pray that the reason for all of his back problems are found and can be repaired. Also for those taking care of him during his recuperation.

First of all, I wouldn't think any back procedure would be 'simple'. Bless him , to be going through back problems so long. My husband had/ has back troubles. When he first hurt it, was bad for a long time. Now, he takes precautions, as he has some disc completely gone.i have arthritis in mine with ostoperosis , no fun either.
Prayers are what will help him through so of course, we will. Also pray he doesn't get depressed being inactive so long ,pray he has a job to go back too, when this is over for him. Pray the infection clears up and pain is bearable, if not completely gone. Really feel compassion for him, as the patient, and you as the mom who worries and loves him dearly.
