Can any of you identify with this.... Loved that Christmas spiral ham we had (sorry, not everyone wanted spiral ham this year!). Since then, we've had ham and cheese on bagels, ham sandwiches, a wonderful cheesy potatoes and ham dinner, we made a terrific Navy Bean and Ham Soup and finally, today, I make Deviled Ham sandwiches. Except for frozen soup, the ham is officially gone!!

I LOVE ham. It however doesn't love me back. Too much sodium and I have to take medicine, so I try to stay away, but you are making me very envious.

So sorry! Oh, yes, much to much sodium. We don't have it very often.... but, when we do - we eat it till it is gone!!

Son in law hates turkey so ham is also part of the Christmas Menu. The left over slices get divided and given to family members to take home. I love the bone and keep it to use it in either bean or split pea soup, and will freeze some.
Same for the Turkey.

For years, we did ham for Christmas (I have to admit, partly because it so easy!!! Then I found out two of our large group, never liked it (No one told me!!). We did a large beef roast last year - this year was my choice!! Yum!

I remember the year my mother fussed at us - don't touch the dark meat (of turkey) - that's your father's favorite. He quickly countered, no, I don't even like dark meat. Then why do you eat it? It always seems to be what's left over. After that, we had turkey breast - all white meat!

Ham is where the heart is. LOL

We cooked our second ham since before just Thanksgiving last night. Also had ham with Thanksgiving dinner and at DH's holiday party--but both were cooked by someone else! In addition, gave three hams as part of Christmas gift baskets. The left overs are always appreciated in my household.

No ham pot pie? Tidbits of ham, limas, corn, potato cubes, cream soup or white sauce, top with unrolled croissants in a can. YUM! Mabe next year.

Your menu sounds good. I froze about half of the leftovers because I sent the other half with daughter. We did have ham and egg biscuits and mac and cheese with diced ham in it.

Yumyum navybean and ham soup with fresh baked cornbread, now that's right up my alley. Yep know what you mean . when I use to be the one to do all the cooking and the kidscame here, I would just divide up all the left overs and send them home with them because a lot would be wasted. You can only do so much with lots of left overs. I've gotten smarter in my old age I now prepare meals and freeze them and when unexpected company comes . I thaw them out. They also come in handy when someone in community gets sick or has a spouse in hosp or something that they could use a little extra help/Lillian

Bean soup with cornbread - yum!!! You are smart to freeze ahead!! I once did a 30 day freeze ahead session - I was exhausted but, the kitchen smelled divine and I had a freezer will of wonderful meals!!

I usually stay away from "the other"white meat, aside from bacon(lol). You have me thinking great way to start my visit with Christie. It has been a while since I have made cheesy potato and ham dish. We have a store called honeybaked ham that may be nationwide, and oh so good!

p.s what is spiral ham?
by dailylaundry 02 Jan 2016
It is a precooked, moist and delicious ham that is presliced in a spiral around the bone. So, you only have to make a few cuts to carve it. It is smoked, cured and usually glazed. It is yummy!!

Thanks for asking, Marian -I didn't know what it was either!

I love ham because it is so versatile. Nobody ever says "Oh I want turkey and eggs for breakfast" And it does make the best potato ham casserole. We grow our own shell beans in the summer and I make baked beans with a meaty ham bone and I freeze portions so we don't have to eat beans for a week. If ham is ok in your diet, it is the bargain at the meat counter for sure.

After fixing it for Christmas Dinner for years, one of my kids just told me - he didn't like spiral ham!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it - so, now, I guess I will alternate it with turkey or beef roast every other year. I guess!!

I still think "Honey Baked Hams" are to die for but if ham is not your thing then a rib roast is the answer. I know some people that have cat fish fries. I say what ever makes you happy! Kay

I feel your pain. We just finished ours off yesterday. I can' eat much pork due to stomach issues. Poor dh had it coming out of his ears. But I can't eat a lot of anything without tummy troubles. 1 small meal a day and maybe a bowl of cereal and that's it. I miss my gall bladder.
