At least some of us have an embroidery cave. My mother was always in a hurry to get the living room nice and tidy before my father came home. But in evening chaos returned..

My mother was also a great one for tidying - I am sure that is where I have got it from. She always told me to make the bed, make sure I was clean and dressed, hair brushed. I am afraid I am guilty of still sticking to these rules.

I balked at putting on the dress and lipstick. At least now we don't have to pick up and hold our machine in one hand (and still be photogenic) !

Oh my, how times and priorities have changed over the years. Although I hate to admit it - I do try to keep the kitchen tidy at all times because when the kitchen is not clean it feels like the whole house is a mess. So I do understand the concept in the advise from Singer. However, once I get going on a sewing or embroidery project, I can easily forget about the house!

My mother sewed on that same machine for many, many years. My daughter now has it. It still works beautifully. She just loves it for doing small repairs. We have come a long way. thanks goodness.

lol-If you take this advice to heart, it would make the 'chores' go quicker, so you could get to sewing!....I guess me staying in my gown on days off, no makeup AND sewing is a no, no, according to 1949 standards....lol

I think this is why my sweet next door neighbor got addicted to those "little nerve pills" that "all" the 50's housewives took. SUCH an oppressive time for women.

So funny. As long as the beds are pulled up and the sink is clean I get started. Especially if I am excited about a project. Do my best work in my PJ's LOL

Well, thank goodness I don't get much company. Like Toogie, on my days off, no makeup. My hair in a ponytail and maybe not even brushed, leggings and a pull over. I enjoy my sewing because I don't have any urgent housekeeping chores except feeding the cats because they have claws and they hurt. :) Thank you 2000's.

Lipstick??? Haven't worn that in years. And someone once said.."My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance!" Probably not a direct quote..but close enough. I'm personally waiting for Santa to bring me a Segway Vac.

When I take one of my 3 Featherweights (one is my moms given to my hubby as he got it for her) to Ladies Night Out at my Bernina dealer I will share this. Love my FW as I can carry where I can't my 180 E or 730 E.

Oh heaven forbid if my hair isn't in order I'm sure my embroidery machine would refuse to function. True women didn't go out even to shop without being in a dress, high heels and gloves...but now I think it's gone to the extreme the other way. I wouldn't be caught dead in my PJ's and slippers in the grocery store like some of these women do now.
