I finally got to shop a little a few weeks ago and thought I'd take the time now to show you, before things got too hectic. My husband had to take me, so I really had to make my mind up, in a hurry. Since butterflies have a special meaning for Ashley, I decided on this, for the birth of Gus.

For those that don't know about my husband and my tradition when we get a new grandchild, I'll try to copy and paste. Here is a little silver spoon for Gus,too.

Added the ring photo, from Nora's birth. Also, one of Ashley wearing it after her birth.

This is the jewelry, I finally decided to get for my daughter, when she has the baby. We, my husband and I, give our 2 girls and 1 daughter-in-law, a piece of jewelry, every time they give us a grandchild.....That is probably why we have so many,LOL. Anyway, I couldn't find anything, in my price range (you know I do have a reasonable limit-LOL), that I really liked and also, thought she would like, until I found this. What do you think?.. I told my niece today, that we have been to the labor and delivery 3 times and there are 4 wraps on this ring. Maybe that is a sign the fourth time we will have the baby ! ...Let me tell you what I did with my older daughter when she had her last baby, 11 years ago, and I am worse now! When Ty was born, we gave her a pretty sapphire necklace. When she opened it, I could tell she looked oddly at it, so I told her if it was not something she liked, I am sure she could exchange it. She was silent for a while longer so I told her, it wouldn't hurt my feelings, as I wanted her to enjoy it. Her response to me was, "I really like it. I liked it 2 years ago, when you bought me the same piece, when Lanie was born!" LOL ...LOL I KNOW I didn't buy this ring before, although when Ashley's twins were born, I did buy 2 pieces of blue topaz. Hope you enjoy knowing someone like me, Toogie

lol-well, I told my hubby this is the last one-lol-When the twins were born, one of my husbands nephews wife, saw us in the mall. She commented on one of Ashley's pieces she had on at the time. When Ashley told her the 'whys & what fors' about it, she said she wished her mom would have done that when she had hers! Added Gus' spoon since you commented.

Toogie, this is such a sweet tradition, and I'm sure your daughters & daughter in law love receiving your gifts. Seems very fitting since the grandchildren they give you are precious gems. Hope all goes well when Gus make his grand entrance into the world.

Thank you, we hope so too. She went yesterday for another ultrasound and he seems to be thriving. The week before doctor was concerned because mom wasn't measuring any bigger but this week sound showed baby is bigger, so I hope all is well. You're right, they are precious little gems in our sight and His.

Wonderful gifts for all that labor. lol I love this tradition. Too late for me for grandchildren. There will be no more grands only great-grands.

I told my husband I wasn't doing this for great-grands. I may be retired and money will be even tighter. I was glad to do it for mine though, maybe they will carry on, I don't know.

What a sweet tradition. Butterflies are a favorite of mine and I love the topaz ring. We gave our daughter a topaz ring- her birthstone - instead of a high school class ring. She thought she would wear it longer - which she has. My son gives his wife a piece of pearl jewelry with the birth of a child. She has four children now, so quite a collection of pearls! :o)

That may be why she has 4, wanted a collection-lol-I tell our children I think that's why we have so many grands, they want a new piece-lol.This will be #11 for us and I do believe I told someone wrong....has so many g-children she doesn't know what to do!-lol

How about Pauline, she has 15 grand-children! Yikes, just remembering the birthdays of our 8 is enough, let alone 15. Love Chris
by toogie 12 Mar 2016
Not to worry Chris, if Pauline's grands are like most of ours, they'll remind her!-lol-Just wait 'till the greats start!!!
by clintonmiss22 13 Mar 2016
My Mom has nine grands and 29!! greats. I have nine (so far) grands and if I have 29 greats I'll surely have trouble remembering their names, much less their birthdays!! LOL
by toogie 14 Mar 2016
I don't think I will do this with the great grands. With 11 grands multiplied by even 2 kids each equals 22! I would have to mortgage my house!-lol

Thanks Chris, I'm sure she will like it as she loves ANY jewelry. I used to wear some jewelry, but not as much as her. Now, I guess I'm just "plain Jane'. Nora, on the other hand, is like mom...if we can just keep her from eating it!....you know for some reason, when I made this post, I thought of Deb aka leenova...she liked her jewelry.

She has a piece, to remind her, of each of their births...as if she would forget-lol- but you know what I mean. Gus will have his spoon, too. IF she gives it to him-lol-I'm still feeding grands with Ashley's spoon, she got when she was a baby, 36 years ago! (meaning I still have hers, didn't give it to her) A German lady gave me a silver cup, for my son when he was born. I did give it to him, but I doubt DIL has ever polished it. Oh well....

Oh sorry I should have written "his mom" because it is a boy
by toogie 12 Mar 2016
Maria, I'm sorry if I confused you by adding the photo of mom and baby . This was mom 2 years ago with Nora. I put it to show her wearing the ring we gave her for the birth of Nora. We haven't gotten our Gus yet, but only a little over 2 weeks until he does come! The butterfly will go to her then for his birth.
