This is the first of a series of circus theme doilies that my husband Marcello is designing and digitising.

It is one of my favourite subject, it was my fun to choose the colours, and it stitched beautifully.
I am sure that a circus theme with its colourful and happy subjects would be ideal to decorate a toddler first bedroom.
Thank you for looking.
Cheers, Roberta

Lovely design, nicely stitched and excellently digitised. But what I admire most is the artwork - anyone can learn to digitise given artwork but being creative enough to draw up that design is a great talent.

Your comments are very much appreciated, stitching and digitizing are new for us, designing came easily since we both come from the artistic field of engraving.

This holds a special place in my heart. For my first son, many years ago, I hand embroidered three clowns on his crib quilt. It was a treasure and he dragged that quilt around for a long, long time.
Very well done by both of you. Hugs, Joyce

Love the clown and love the outer shape. If you did several different designs in this outer shape, could you link them together on the knobby parts (with a zigzag) to make a table runner?

by robertahilde 13 Apr 2016
Glad you liked the subject and shape.
Thank you for the suggestion we will try to linked at the knobby and when finish with the other subjects will post the results.

What a very neat and fun design! Well done Marcello and Roberta! I am curious about your binding. Would you mind giving me some pointers on how you made them so neat and perfect. Did you have to do it in sections to give it that look? Thanks for any tips you are willing to share!

Also, what is the software you use? Thanks, Jan

Thank you Jan, we are pleased you liked the subject.
In short: The wash-away with the fabric are hooped, the clown embroidered with a trace of the outer shape.
The fabric is cut to the shape without cutting the wash-away and lastly the rope border is stitched on top.
I used Pulse from Tajima for the whole thing.
Cheers, Marcello and Roberta.
