I am having a bit of a rant and rave. I have spent several mornings trying to buy myself a pair of jeans. By jeans, I mean those denim things that we used to be able to buy. In every shop all they have are jeggins and boot leg. I do not want something that is stretch and shows every lump and bump, which I have much of. You have to be a contortionist to be able to get your foot into the extremely narrow bottoms of the jeggins. I also do not want boot leg. I am not very tall and a boot leg makes me look even wider than I am. What has happened to an ordinary non stretch denim jean. I also do not want tears or jeans looking as if someone has thrown an opened bottle of bleach at them. I just cannot understand it. DH Has suggested that I buy a pair of men's straight leg. So tomorrow I might just try that...........<br /><br />

I have managed to buy a pair of jeans. I went into one of our incredibly cheap Africian chain stores. They have very little stretch, they do have a slightly narrow bottom of leg but not too bad, they are rather thin denim but best of all they fit. I just hope they do not shrink when washed. I tried on loads of men's jeans but they are just totally wrong for my shape. For all you SA girls, the shop was Pep Stores. If they do not shrink I will buy another pair. I am quite exhausted. 😴
Thought I would just post a picture of my new jeans. The bottoms are still a bit narrow but nothing like some that I have tried on. I just wanted to add that when my jeans start looking a bit worn and faded, I take them to our local dye shop. Two days later they look like new. Great for black jeans to keep their colour.

I buy men's jeans for me and have done so for years. They fit differently...but then I am "apple shape" not "pear shape" so they work better for me anyway.

Good advice. Let us know how that worked out. I can not understand the fashion of ripped and tattered jeans. I keep on wanting to add patches to the grands clothing ha, ha.

I always used to buy men's jeans but haven't recently. At the moment I have about 10 pairs of jeans and only one needs unfastening to put on! (They are about 20 years old.) The others don't come high enough up to need unfastening so consequently I'm always pulling them up.
I wouldn't buy any without a bit of stretch as I like to be able to bend without being cut in half!

I have bought men's jeans forever... You pick your waist ad leg measurement and viola perfect jeans. Why they don't do that with woman's jeans I will never know. I am tall and for some reason manufactures do not cater to tall gals. SO I have always bought men's jeans for the length.. Give it a try!

I buy Gloria Vanderbilt jeans at Costco. They are only 14.99 and come in all kinds of colors including denim colored. They also come in all sizes including Womens and also in average and short. I'm 5'4'' and short fits me. I like the stretch and they hold my bulges in, but are comfortable. At 14.99 I have a variety of colors.

I am also the same height as you. Unfortunately we have no Vanderbilt jeans here whee I live.
They have them on line. They won't be as cheap as Costco, but they have a wide variety of colors.
They also have stingy-cut pockets - won't hold a cell phone. Bet I've owned 30 pairs over the years but won't look for them any longer because the pockets are so small.

Try Milady's or Queenspark!! Milady's has different cuts of jeans. I am a bit taller than 5'4" and there jeans work for me. Woolies was having a sale and there jeans are not bad. My mom is shorter than you and she managed to get some jeans there some weeks ago.

Jeans can be challenging for sure...I am quite tall 5' 10"...so boot cut work well for me...if I want just regular old denim jeans...I buy men's jeans...

When I used to buy men's jeans I found the waist too large (as men are built rather straight) ...so I would undo the stitching off ONLY the bottom of the back belt loops. Then cut a slit on the inside of the waistband where those belt loops attach...and run some elastic through to snug up the waist a bit. Stitch the elastic in place with a zigzag stitch. The re-attach the belt loop on the outside. This will give you a more fitted pair of lady jeans and the stitching doesn't show. I no longer wear jeans as I've had knee replacement and I don't like the roughness of denim. But that's what I used to do....mens jeans are generally cheaper and better quality denim and come in a much wider range of sizes. Good luck!!

Have you thought of looking in charity shops or at markets to find the old fashion denim jeans.I have found that once you get to size 14 or 16 they think your thighs are enormous.I'm tall & I have run the side seams in from the bottom of the pocket down to the knee.The denim doesn't even feel like denim any more ,just thin stretchy fabric .

the 'western' shops may have a pair of Wranglers. The women's boot-cut are nice but need to check the 'high rise or low rise' which is the position of the waist-band

There's some hope for those of us who do not like the narrow leg jeans and jeggings. I recently read online that wide leg jeans are making a comeback. Here's hoping....

I hate the low rise jeans. Good thing jeans used to be good quality, because I'm still wearing natural waist straight leg jeans from years ago. I did find that LLBean carries them. Some Sears stores have that brand. Of course they cost 2-3 times as much, but..

Oh yes. Bought a pair, have washed them to get the excess colour out and to see if there is any shrinkage. They fit well so I am off tomorrow to buy another pair to keep until needed.

I wasn't needing jeans, although I only had 3 pair and EMT cut one pair off, in the ambulance.
It was shoes. I needed some new athletic shoes and since I can't get out on my own, shopping with hubby is not easy, to say the least. He thinks -go to one store, buy the cheapest ones whether you like them or not and go home-. uh..h..g..
We went to Shoe Carnival where all they have is shoes. I have a problem toe and I have to try on and make sure it doesn't hurt that foot. The other (broke leg) foot is swollen still, so its hard to just that foot. I left there with no shoes and I was more than ready to go home. Hubby just said one word to me in car and I broke into tears. I want to go shop for what I want, buy what I want ON MY OWN! ( I haven't put him in the poor house yet and this is our 48th year-lol)
After my outburst, he's ready to go to Academy and I'm in no mood to shop.... Of course, we did go, I'm the prisoner, he's driving remember? I did get a pair that I'm not very happy with. Good foot is comfortable but bothers the swollen one. oh well...we may make 49................lol

I totally appreciate your dilemma! I finally actually found a pattern that works very well for me. I have made 2 pair with minor adjustments. I found that once I got the fit right they were really quite easy to make. The only problem for me is TIME!! Just a thought...you could take a basic pattern from the ones that you like for fit and go from there...just saying..
