Cuties I have to share something.
Yesterday, my daughter and family came in to pick up Avery, as she got off the bus here. After they came in, Mom went out to the SUV to get something, for Nora.
A lady had seen a photo of Nora, on Facebook, holding Mom's fiddle. The lady contacted my daughter and told her she had purchased a child size fiddle and even paid for lessons for her little girl. The child just wasn't interested. She wanted to GIVE (which my daughter wanted to pay) the fiddle to Ashley for Nora.
They presented it to her here and look how sweet. She has an interest, so we are hoping she will eventually play too. Her arms are a little too short for her to place the fiddle right, but she holds the bow well. Let's hope she will learn given time, as she is only two.-Toogie

I have one with her and mom, that I love, and another with Nora again by herself. Her mom showed interest in music, as soon as she could pat-a-cake, she would keep time with the music not just get excited but really her timing was spot on.

What a wonderful story. How old was your daughter when she learned to play. Hopefully she will follow in Mom's footsteps

Mom always had an ear but formally learned to read music in school, playing the flute by sheet music and the keyboard by sheet & by ear. We didn't have room for piano or finances.
When she graduated high school, the summer before college, she wanted us to buy her a fiddle. We were afraid to put out the money, if she couldn't play. We had some family members that played guitar and some play fiddle. The ones playing guitar said they couldn't play fiddle,as it has no frets so it seemed harder for them.
Well, I called my husbands aunt and asked her if her husband would show Ashley a little on the fiddle. She said sure, so one Saturday night we went to visit. She left 'borrowing' one of his fiddles. We went to church the next morning, but after lunch, we went to my MIL's and Ashley brought the fiddle. We were a bunch of us sitting/visiting on their big front porch and Ashley was on the back porch. One of my sister-in-law's hushed everybody and we could recognize Amazing Grace. What better song to learn!
She gave Uncle Arden his fiddle back, as we purchased her a fiddle. When he died, his wife wanted Ashley to play his fiddle, not sit it up. She did for a few years but they had 2 boys and they wanted their dads fiddle. I guess it sits as they can't play.

Beautiful story and pictures Toogie. I would encourage anyone to learn an instrument and I do pray that Nora takes it up. As a 2 year old she has the world at her feet! God bless, love Chris

Yes, she has plenty time. I just hope she's not introduced too early and not appreciate it. She will have to learn to care for it, too. Last night when she finally laid it down, her mom scolded her. Told her when she wasn't playing it, it has to be put in the case, as someone could step on it and break it, or God forbid, fall over it. Right now she doesn't appreciate what it is, probably thinks of it like a toy, but in time I hope she will.

I think music touches all our emotions, but there are those that have talent and can play it, not just listen.

Love the photos and the story behind them. I hope that Nora will always nurture her love of music. Mommy will likely help her immensely with that aspect, may also be why her beginning interest was noticed already. Given time she will find where her gift lies within the large field of music. Sounds like she has at least a very good beginning to help her develop her life long love of music. Also sounds like the boys who wanted to have dads fiddle for themselves, cared more of the possession of the fiddle than the music it could create, without the skill to create the music, it is nothing but wood, strings, and bow. The instrument of itself can not create the music that the boys missed after his passing, where if they had allowed your daughter to continue learning with the fiddle, then she would have played them music and likely brought to those boys the feelings they had been missing after their father's passing. I imagine that grandpa would have rather the fiddle have been played and cherished and would have appreciated that it was his cherished fiddle that brought the love of music to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, which is a far better thought than the fiddle getting packed away gathering dust. Nothing sadder than an instrument sitting gathering dust. Glad that this family donated this child's fiddle to Nora, a child who at least had a desire, rather than letting another instrument sit idle. Those first sounds can a bit hard on the ears but hoping she has a desire to continue learning and will become a sweeter and sweeter sound to those who listen. Thanks again for sharing. Pam

I can understand wanting to keep their dads fiddle, but just wish some of their family could play. Ashley didn't need it now, as she has her own.

Being a musician myself I can really appreciate this. I have seen what music can do for young and old. It warms my heart to see any child with an interest in making music. . Music is so therapeutic for all and can bring smiles when nothing else can. A beautiful tale Toogie. I love the pictures!!/Lillian

Thanks Lillian for your comments. Yes, we all love music here. I remember when Ashley was a child of about ten years of age. She had a little neighbor friend the same age, so they were back and forth, spending nights. Ashley told us one time, when the little girl had gone home, what she had said. She told Ashley, " Your mom and dad sing, your sister and brother sing, you sing. Nobody sings at our house." It made me sad to hear that and also to realize she noticed and missed it, at her own house.

OH wonderful.... it's nice to know there are still wonderful and giving people out there in the world. What a wonderful gift. I use to play the piano and know how much it means to be able to learn and play.. I will keep her in my prayers that she is able to learn with ease. I must say again..... so glad to know there are still thoughtful people in the world. Mechille :)
