Cuties, a friend/SIL is having a kidney removed Tuesday. She has a malignant tumor covering almost half the kidney. Her name is Geri......
Our group of Women On Mission, make prayer quilts. I finally was able to go to town yesterday and get this fabric for her quilt. I wanted this especially for her, so I made it today. We can tie the quilt Sunday, so she will get it before her surgery. I know she will appreciate it, as I just got off the phone with her and she's just ready to get it over with.
Also, my oldest (16) grand-daughter is having her tonsils out Wednesday. She is a bit old and been needing to have this done. She's nervous about it. Her name is Lanie.....
To talk about the quilt-I machine sewed at the intersections of the blocks, just a square with an X inside. Then I put the strands of DMC floss in the centers of each square, for people to tie, as they say their prayer. You may can see in the first photo, if you click on it to enlarge. Look at the second photo, above and between the D and N in kindness. If not the back of the quilt will show it. #2 & #3 are just some of the verses printed on the fabric.
I usually just do the embroidering. I emb a cross, WOM, and the church on the top corner. When we know ahead who the quilt will go to, I emb on the opposite corner, prayer quilt for and then their name underneath. Other ladies in the group, usually put them together. We all buy and donate fabrics, battings, threads, floss, etc. whatever is needed. I wanted to do this one even though it wasn't easy moving around, trying to get everything smoothed out. If its not perfect (and believe me It's not) it was made from the heart, so it won't matter.

Love what your doing, we even had a member of our quilt team break her arm this winter. She said she loved getting her quilt. Almost all the quilts this winter were given as soon as made. Lots of people with problems. She will love this.

Yes, its too many people with problems and always prayers are needed. So glad to hear others are doing this ministry as well.

Toogie - this is a lovely quilt, and a touching gesture for you and your Mission ladies to provide for those in need of prayer. This one is extra special since you chose the fabric & made it specifically with your friend/SIL in mind (and you still recovering with your own injury!). She will be wrapped in prayers through her surgery & recovery phase, feeling those healing powers. Good on you, and your group for doing this kind work.

It's such a good ministry, I was hoping it would inspire others to start a group like this, in their own church. So rewarding for all! Recipients, or at like some recipients, are so amazed that people that don't even know them, have petitioned God on their behalf. Toogie, this is a very special quilt and definitely made with lots of love. I recognize the Fruit of the Spirit which makes it even more special. Kudos to you and to every person whose hands were a part in making it. It is perfect! How are you doing? It's been a while since we heard an update on you.

This was made with LOTS of love! Geri is such a sweet person. She had cancer years ago and was doing good until now. She needs to overcome again.
I too love this fabric and if it wasn't so costly, I should get the rest of the bolt! We can always use it!

Thank you Angel and I'm sorry too, that Geri is having to deal with this yet again. She had cervical cancer when she was 28, she is now in her early 70's. They treated her back then, with 21 radiation treatments and a capsule inserted. She's a long time survivor!

Geri was aware of the prayer quilts, but explained it to her daughter, because she was there when we brought it to Geri. She thought it was a wonderful outreach, comfort.

This makes my eyes rain Toogie. Such a kind, giving thing to do. Truly my kind of people who do things like this. God does Bless us so. I am at this moment leaving to go to church for a funeral of a dear friend. I'm not sad I know where she went and she had been wanting to go for quite a while now. She was in her 90s and has been comatose for more than 2 weeks. What a grand homecoming she must have had/Lillian

Amen Lillian! We just buried someone, like your friend, ourselves, but somewhat younger. It was such an inspiration to hear his only 2 daughters, be able to speak of their Christian home life, growing up with him. Such a loving man.
His youngest daughter and our Ashley are close in age and I remember his support, kindness shown to us when Ashley got her cancer diagnosis. I never forgot......

You found the perfect fabric fro her situation and did your usual great job. This is major,major surgery she is having and takes a lot out of you (¬ just the kidney)-my DH had it just a little over a year ago and he is fine now so please reassure your friend that everything for her will be fine, too. It may be a lot slower than she is expecting so don't be impatient and if you don't feel up to something don't feel guilty for not doing it. Praying the all will go well on Tues and afterwards.

I loved all the messages/scripture in each block. When she doesn't feel like doing anything or just wants a pick me up, she can just read the quilt around her.

Thanks, he is good now but it did take almost a full year before he said he felt like he was 100%-1kidney! He has a great sense of humor and positive attitude.

Yes, I have a lot of hers but to emb for so many is not an option. I have too much to do. So glad your husband is doing well. I do believe positive attitude makes a difference.

What inspirational blocks! I can see why you would want to purchase the whole bolt! If it is available at JoAnn's maybe you could purchase when they have a 50% off any one cut of material, it is how I purchase my bolts of stabilizer or other materials if I use large amounts of those items. Any of the flaws you notice in the quilt, just show the love and commitment you made to create the quilt for Geri as they all know the limitations you are managing with at this time. You may not realize just how much spiritual strength others gain from seeing what you accomplish despite how hard things are for you to do at this time. Prayers continue for you and now also for Geri and your granddaughter Lanie. Pam
