This is the quilt I have been working on for the last few weeks. It will go to a young man that has to leave the orphanage because he is turning 18. There are 7 young people that will have to leave and my church friends and quilting group took on the task to make queen-size quilts for each of them. My hope is that this quilt will bring some warmth to him and let him know that people that do not even know him, care.

It's beautiful and so are you. Me thinks he'll never forget this kindness that's being shown him. Kids forget what people look like but they do not forget deeds of kindness, most remember all their lives

Wonderful gift. It must be such a shock to be cut loose at such a tender age - same as in the foster care system. How true what Lillian said. You may or may not remember what you learned in each grade of school, but you remember most of the teachers' names and how they treated you and the other children. So they mostly taught you how to be wonderfully human, by example.

WOW WOW WOW! Angie this is so beautiful and a great design for a young man, the colours are very masculine. He will always treasure the love and work that has been put into this. You are a sweetie for doing this for these young people. Love Chris

Thank you Chris. I actually love creating. I have so much joy doing this. Well not so much the size. Kind of difficult quilting it with my sewing machine. Now the lap size we usually make will seem like a breeze.

I hope they help set up the young guy, with finding job/housing, so he will have a bed to put this on. This is a beautiful quilt and I know a lot of love went into it.
Its a shame, I really never thought about what happens to them at 18. I do hope they have prepared him, for living on his own. Now this really concerns me....something and someone else to pray for. I hope his heart has not hardened, because he was an orphan, not adopted. I really wish all of them well. Maybe they can rent a place together, to share the cost of living.

Toogie this quilt will travel with people from our church on a mission trip to Romania. The reason for the size is, that often the young people get married soon after leaving the orphanage. There are so many people in this world that need prayers. Thank you for wanting to include them. .

Toogie, I also wonder what happens to these 18 year olds.

I love the challenge of a quilt, so I enjoy the process.and the learning with each one. I am glad that at the same time I can hopefully bring joy to someone else.

How tramatic it must be to not know if you'll eat again or ever be safe. Today's world is very harsh.I hope he can find help soon. The quilt is just beautiful.

You made a lovely quilt. Quilting a full sized one on a sewing machine must have been a challenge, especially when doing the center.
I think the recipient will be very pleased with it. Getting something brand new especially made for him will be such a joy!

Thanks. Yes it was a bit cramped, I kept it simple in the center by just doing stitch in the ditch.Having the quilt send out for quilting gets a bit to pricey.

It's so beautiful and he will feel your arms around him and the selfless love that you have included in making this creation. What a kind and loving thing to do. Sending a prayer to travel with this quilt for the young who receives it.

Lovely quilt. I do hope he accepts it they way you are sending it. It is very hard for the young ones to leave the nest, especially an orphanage.
