Hi Cuties,

I know many of you have had knee problems, some knee replacements, some broken, whatever the case. What I need to know is, do any of you have a recumbent bike and if so, what kind?
I have been looking to buy one, I think :( since I have been pretty much immobile, for almost 5 months I have really put on the weight.
I'm not sure I will be as faithful riding this, as I was walking the treadmill. I LOVE walking the treadmill. I would put on a movie and walk a good fast, steady pace, for about 1 hr/40min 6 days a week and I lost quiet a bit of weight. Unfortunately, after being immobile from breaking my leg, some of the weight has returned.
I use a recumbent bike at physical therapy. If I get bored, I am able to use my IPhone to connect to Cute-lol- They say the RB (recumbent bike) is safer than the treadmill, as you have a better chance of falling on the TMill.
To be honest, I am scared to get on the T-mill. My belt had started slipping and if I hadn't been holding onto the bars when I walked, I probably would have fallen. If I walk again I am getting a new T-mill. I have to get some sort of exercise though so this is my delema. Do I buy a recumbent bike for safety....maybe not like it, therefore won't be used as much. OR buy a treadmill, that I used to like to do if I can now get over my fear of falling? I know I don't want to fall again, ANYWHERE.
I've almost talked myself into the Recumbent bike, just reading my thoughts.-lol- I do have a great fear of falling and I know I'm getting older....I do need some form of exercise (even if it takes me out of my sewing room).......
Help!!! ...Opinions which to get, and recommendations on which R-bike to buy if you have one, & if you use yours, are highly welcomed.-Toogie

A lady in my Sunday School who also has asthma and knee problems, like me, highly recommended it. She said it has really saved her figure! I think I'm going to go try one out at Academy(a store) before I buy. Also, have you started watching the want ads for a used one someone didn't like? Maybe they could tell you what they didn't like! I'm also trying to reason out what I will move or get rid of to make room for that footprint somewhere other than the attic or basement!

Thanks for the info. I have a friend in another state, that said her husband had to have therapy for injuries, from a motorcycle accident. They bought one and he lost 50 lbs and now she rides everyday. She said her college kids like it too. She said they all like it so much, when her furniture is worn, she will replace furniture with each of them a recumbent bike. -lol-
I looked and tried some at Sears yesterday, never made it to Academy. I like the feel, of the seat , on the ProForm 460R. I have an arthritic back and that seat seemed to feel better. I hate to spend over $300. , not like it, and then can't resale or resale at a huge loss....A man/patient at therapy, says he got a R-bike, after his first knee replacement surgery. He got the NoricTrack GX 4.7. He recommends it, but he did say his wife doesn't like the seat. She has to have a cushion for her back. That's why he told me to check them out at the stores. Try the seats and all that. He hasn't been able to start, on his bike yet, as he just had his second knee replaced.
The kids took my old T-mill out, when they had to make room, for me to get around my bedroom, in a wheelchair. I needed to get rid of it anyway. Like I said, the belt was slipping and I also think I hurt the motor by overheating it staying on so long, at one time. So I have room to put it back in my bedroom.

Hi Toogie, I've got one in Trev's study. We both use it, except he has a stronger gear than what I do. He likes a harder resistance and I like one a bit weaker. I use it when the weather is bad and having the convenience of a bike is great because you can watch television whilst on it. I don't think you can go wrong with having one, they are great for people who have had knee replacements as it exercises the muscles that have been damaged. My Mum has one in her garage from days gone by when she had her knee replacements. I can't remember when we got ours, but it has to be at least 10 years cause I used it when I had my Achilles Tendon reattachment operation on my right leg. Ours is lightweight and we can move it from room to room. Good luck on finding one that is suitable for your needs. Love Chris

This bike looks more like an upright stationary bike, we have here in the USA. Ashley has one. The recumbent bikes I've been looking at, have a back rest on the seat and a full seat unlike a bicycle seat. The recumbent bike will take up more space than your bike here. They do make them, with rollers, so you can move from room to room. I've been watching UTube videos of workouts on a recumbent bike. I like the handles that are by the seat edge for holding to, even though I won't speed like some, on these workout videos-lol-The seat on the R-bike at PT hurts my behind/butt. I don't have much padding there-lol-so I would like to try a few models before I make a purchase to see which is more comfortable, for my back especially. I can sit on a cushion if I have to, but the back needs to be okay.

Yes, you are right Toogie, mine is a stationary bike. Sorry I didn't realise there were different types of bikes like the one you are after. I've just had a look on Google and they are great looking bikes. Love Chris

Can you rent one short term? Or buy from somewhere that has a 30 day return policy if not suitable?

Not sure about that, but I have thought about a membership at a gym, for a month .I just would rather do it in my home. There is a gym about 2 miles from my house.....

Good luck with finding one to suit you. I am doing LCHF and so far have lost weight without exercise.

I'm not familiar with LCHF but if you loose weight, without exercise you will lose muscle too. I want to lose but also need exercise for my health/ bones.
