For a while I've been wondering about making ITH animals in felt with blanket stitched edges to look as if they were handmade. I've had time to play a bit today. I hadn't considered the faf of picking the stabiliser our from the underside of each piece! I may stick to animals which need turning through to finish!

UPDATE - I have solved the stabiliser problem and I'm much happier with version 2. This time I made her arms and legs longer and skinnier and used pipe cleaners instead of stuffing for a change.

Yes, but in fairness Sue the 'faf' look actually achieves your intended outcome of having them look as if they were hand made. If you go back to the original system of having to 'turn' the piece then it loses that hand-made touch. Just a thought. Whoever it is intended for will love it whatever the look.

Love it. i have picked a lot of stabilizer out. If you use wss it will work. and I prefer materials other than felt as felt collects dust.

My new method works beautifully with tear away. WSS is way too expensive!

Not yet! Not sure if it should be straight or curly and I want her to still be able to sit nicely.

looks good like the blanket stitch if you pulled the stabilizer off before cutting out would it be easier, also plastic shopping bags work well in the hoop...wendy

I'll try that! I have solved the problem of the little bits in the blanket stitch though.

£0.05 per bag nowadays, you know Sue. Or are you going to become 'the baglady.'

Love the mouse Sue, she is just adorable. Do you need stabiliser ? i have embroidered a few items on good quality felt and found i did not need any backing. I am now unsure, wondering yes or no. Sandra.

Probably not needed as stabiliser, but it would be wasteful to hoop the felt for these small pieces.

Miss Mouse looks like she would sit pretty on a pincushion or could be a special helper holding the pincushion for you. Even a thin wire around the inner ear would allow you to have some attitude or personality. Hope that you will show us your final versions, as you have many of us thinking of Miss Mouse and all of her possible relatives. Thank you for all your hard work for the site and for the sheer creativity of creating. Pam

Great minds think alike, Pam - I had the same thought about a pincushion. But then, I am very occupied with pincushions at the moment!

The only kind of meese I really like and this Miss fits the bill nicely. She is so cute and stylish. All she needs is a curly tail to parade on the Runway or red carpet/Lillian
