Hi Carolyn, you basically make a design which will fit inside the cup - a circular design would be best. Then stuff the cup with wadding, batting, steel wool, walnut shells etc. whatever medium you want to use and then glue the design to the cup and place some cording or other lace edging etc. to finish it off. I love my pin cushion too!! it will never tip over and the saucer holds things in use. Buttons, thimble,etc.Just hope the SS who created mine see this one. Janette
