I know that many of you have upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10. The free upgrade will be running out soon and I still do not know what to do. I am terrified of loosing anything to do with my embroidery files. I do have SewWhatPro and also SewIconz and wonder if they will take the changeover with no problems. If any of you can give me advice - Please......

Well I have downloaded. A little bit different but I will soon get used to it. ALL my embroidery files and software are there. Very happy about that. Thank you all for your advice and help.

I've upgraded to Windows 10 Sarah on my laptop (on which I'm typing to you on) and have had no problems. I have SewIconz so I can view my icons etc. and have had no issues.

BUT! on my PC I haven't downloaded it as I watch TV (I have Windows Media Player on there) and the new Windows 10 doesn't acknowledge that anymore. So I don't know whether I can buy that separately - I do hope so! Love Chris

Have replied Gabi at the top of this post. I can't get Windows Media on my computer. Bummer, as I watch the TV on it whilst sewing. Love Chris

Windows Media Center is no longer available starting with Windows 10. Many will miss it and all the features it had.

I upgraded when it first came out and I have had no problems at all with my embroidery files or software. If I were you I would backup everything first. There is a way to reverse it and I was tempted to do it because it is different but when I got used to it I would not trade back now for anything, When you get used to it, it is much easier.

I only DL it on the laptop, but didn't on the PC. With upgrade from XP to windows 7, I wasn't able to use my printer, scanner and many programs did not work anymore. So I leave my PC as it is now..

Hi Sarah - I use a Mac personally. Have to tell you though that I got a new laptop at work. With all the software that works perfect we decided to stick to Windows 7. So every day or so I would get the message do I want to upgrade to 10 as it is free. So obviously I would not accept the offer. A few weeks back I was still working and suddenly the laptop started to shutdown and install Windows 10 automatically. I was devastated - our computer guys said - lets go through it and see how it goes. Luckily I have adjusted quickly and all seems fine. Hope your transgression is as smooth as mine was.

I updated to Windows 10 and fid it works OK for most things including the embroidery software packages I use. My one complaint is the internet explorer that comes with it. It seems slow and freezes. For my huge design file I added the Microsoft cloud in which to store designs. I love it. I have lost too many files over the years due to failures of CDs and memory sticks,

I have windows 10. I would back up the computer and then upgrade. Eventually you will have to do it anyways and apparently Microsoft is taking it upon themselves to do it anyways.without your approval.. Eleen is not the first one I heard that from. The one issue I had that after one of the upgrades it changed the property association on my embroidery files. That was a easy fix, but might be scary for someone else, when they can not open their files.

HI Chris...There is a difference between your Windows Media Center (WMC) and the Windows Media Player (WMP). Windows Media Player is available for Windows 10 and comes with the download of Windows 10. The Windows Media Center that you refer to is an older operating systems like XP and Windows 7...they are two different systems...

Yes, Kim, I meant I can't get Windows Media Centre. So I don't know what will happen whether I will be able to buy a programme or some sort of system to enable me to watch my TV through the computer. Love Chris

I just WISH I had something positive to say about Windows 10!! My husband works in IT and also hates it. They have two men from their team travelling around Australia - their jobs dedicated to trying to sort out Windows 10 issues. I certainly did not choose to have it - one night I came into the study and it was updating itself!!!! We have to constantly reboot and the computer often freezes up. This has happened on 3 of our personal computers and two friends have had the same problems. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

yes , I up graded about a month ago and i don't like it but I thought I was getting left behind without it .I do use an external hard drive for my designs. I do suggest you back up your designs in the method your prefer before to download it . Kay

Sarah, I am staying with Windows 8.1. It does not worry me that the FREE upgrade is running out, I would rather stay with what I know and what works for me. I have QuickBooks 2000 that I do the books for our farming records on and I would hate to have to upgrade that. When we came home from holidays it appeared that I had upgraded to Windows 10. On the screen it said welcome to Windows 10..... if you are not Margaret click here, and I did and it went back to Windows 8.1, I was never so relieved in all my life. I thought the grandson or his girlfriend must have decided to upgrade my computer but after reading some of these posts maybe it was an automatic upgrade from Microsoft. Anyway I am staying with what I know and what works for me. Hugs marg

Thank you all for your feedback. I have decided to bite the bullet and down load Windows 10. I did a full back up yesterday so all is well there. Watch this space and I will let you know.
