Lessons re-learned, all within one hour today.
1. When the directions say to hoop two layers of stabilizer, they really mean it.
2. Don't think your quick snipping of the thread while the machine is running won't be a problem. After all, you know where the needle will be heading. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
3. Don't hoop cutaway and start on an expensive project when you really meant to hoop tear away.
All my lessons learned the hard way. As usual.

It happens to all of us I think. Usually right in the middle of the project you realize you messed up. One thing I have learned to do is read the directions instead of thinking I know what I'm doing.

I've been away from embroidering for a while due to sickness, and I didn't realize how much had slipped away while I was not well. Besides the lessons, I am so thankful to be well enough to feel like sewing again.
I'm glad you feel better. don't get discouraged you will remember the lesson the next time

Aaugh! I usually don't catch the cutaway mistake until all stitching is complete and I try. . . to . . . tear. I feel your pain. So, maybe you're done with reminder lessons.

That's what happened, and took a very long time trimming it off with tiny scissors. I aggravate myself !

I think we have all made mistakes ,in fact silly ones at times.
For your number 2 , I always stop the machine before you snip .
Another one is to take your foot away off the foot control ,when you stop sewing .A sudden sneeze or visit from a pet could cause your foot to press down on the control so the machine starts sewing,resulting in a mess.Worse still if it is a overlocker.

Isn't that the truth. I still remember my mom teaching me to sew many years ago and our big dog came in the room and decided it was nap time on my foot on the control.

Thank you for sharing your "lessons re-learned". We have all done some very bizarre things by accident. I have found I have to really stop and think about the colors, placement, fabric, type of stabilizer, stitch count and on and on it goes. Even then some goofy things happen.

Your pain has been my pain. We are all human and I don't think any of us can make a mistake that hasn't been made by others. At least you were able to save the project even though it meant a lot of time snipping cut away.

That's true. It was one of those cute dress towel toppers. I was inspired by the pictures posted on this site. Luckily, the cut away was on the back of the strap and not the whole thing.

We have all been there and will be there again no doubt. Time to walk away and take a breather. The other hard learned lesson for me is this; when the directions say this design will stitch in 18 minutes .....it usually takes me 2 hours!

Exactly! I always seem to take at least two or three times as long. I guess I'm a plodder and not a sprinter!

Thanks! I've made lots of mistakes, and sometimes they are funny and sometimes they just make me aggravated at myself. Funny is better,for sure. At least I didn't try to grab a thread with my fingers this time, so I didn't have to sacrifice a nail to my impatience.

Been there......................done that....................got the tie pin award. In my case I've even not learned from making these mistakes once around. Another important lesson for me of recent was 'measure twice..........cut once.'

I think I need to make myself a "pre-flight checklist" to make sure I have myself collected, and things well planned and well measured before even sitting down. I've had a few too many of those forehead-smacking episodes! Learning patience apparently needs patience!
I have a printed pre-flight checklist!! Just need to put it up. :-)
