Alright Cuties, heads up and thinking caps on!
You may remember me posting I 'may' be going on a road trip, if you don't remember, link below.
My niece gives gifts away, during the trip for entertainment if nothing else, some really nice gifts down to whatever.
I told her I would make some things, if the things I make, are good enough gifts. She gave me the green light, to go ahead.-lol
I stitched the first design from San Francisco's road trip, on two bought totes. She loved them, as Maine is one of our states we're visiting.
What else can I do or make???
I have a fat quarter with underwear on it. I thought of making some sort of lingerie bag. I have heard of them so tell me what does it look like? A drawstring or zipper??? or not a good idea at all?
I made a few cosmetic or medicine bags and lined them, with the waterproof I use on the back of Avery's bibs. (BTW I got a nice thank you for making and mailing those bibs for the child like Avery. The mom asked if I would mind if she posted them on her Facebook page, so she must like them. She said the little girl got excited about them....ah...)
Ok-I got off track-I also thought of shoe bags. If that's a good idea, what size do you make them and again, zipper or drawstring? This might be good gift for the men too...........
I had even thought of a large size canvas, dirty clothes bag, but what to emb? I can't personalize.
My niece said there is a man going that is an artist and he is donating a painting, to give! He has gone on trips before with her. Makes anything I do look , well you know, not comparable. Niece said not to worry because that will be the main 'prize'. She has other gifts too that she says can't compare to his, so anything will be appreciated.
In other words HELP!!!!

how many items are you needing? You must have some mug rugs in your files,Oma's has a free tag you can print out explaining what they are for. I like hand sanitizer holders. lip balm holders.Eye glass cases. I always add the sanitizer or lip balm. tissue pack holders-with tissues. Those little triangle bags are cute,add a ribbon pull on them. Go back and have a look at projects you have made in the past. maybe something will pop up you had forgotten about.

Some years a go I made a dozen or so shoebags when there were redwork shoe patterns offered on Cute - see link. I just took a pair of shoes, wrapped some fabric around it, added a couple of inches to get the right size and made drawstring bags that sold like hot cakes. Have a couple not-yet-embroidered ones I use for underwear :) but a nice zippered one would look a bit more sophiticated.
Mugrugs are a good idea, as are notebook covers or rather covered notebooks. Could be used as journals during the trip. maybe not the most impressive items compared with the artwork, but they would come in handy don't you think.

What kind of fabric did you use and did you put a waterproof lining? Did you use cording or bias drawstring out of material? I have designs for the women shoes. I've been saving a long time-lol
I used remnants of a curtain - unlined; recycled some of my SiL's shirt - lined with flannel. Drawstring was cord or when I had enough fabric a straight one sewn of same material. I never thought of a waterproof lining but that would be a great idea for shoes that can get dirty (walking/climbing boots). I usually travel wearing the heaviest of the lot and put the nice ones in bags in my luggage - especially when flying as I don't want to pay for extra luggage.

Zip cases are handy for anything from personal items to pencils, key fobs, luggage tags, ith cable holders( to keep phone cords etc tidy)
dirty laundry bags are great when you are away and you can embroidery a washing line with clothes on, Emb lib has some great ones.
Beach towels with a pocket that convert to a bag
Really almost anything would work that you make, love the idea too.

I'm thinking the coffee cup wraps would be nice especially on a trip. those paper cups can get hot. What about eye masks, pot holders, FSL bowls, Christmas decorations, picture frames and FSL angels. Oh, pencil toppers would make a fun gag gift for adults. Have fun stitching and an even better time on the trip.

The first thing I thought of on a road trip is Toilet Paper! So maybe some toilet roll holders. Wheel covers so that the steering wheel doesn't get hot, coasters, I like the idea of the beach towel with the hoods on them, Shopping bags, toiletry bags, with or without zips. If you need things done quickly use the drawstring method. Sunscreen bottle holders, etc. Love Chris

I was thinking Key Fobs of the states you will be visiting. or toiletry bags with zips (lots of ith ones out there) & put the states on the front of bag, this way they are unisex

Maybe some tote bags for purchases made during the trip. They could have a place to write the persons name on a tag. Also a snap closure at the top to keep everything from falling out during travel.

Totes are a great idea. Little zip bags for change or tissues. Laundry bags are great for traveling. You put your dirty in the bag as you use them. You can use a large font and write " Dirty Laundry". the totes you can put your purse in are really nice. So until you purchase something you only have the one bag to carry. Or change your tote to a beach bag. You could also do Beach towels. A simple little something on one end. Sea Shells or wording. I hope you have a fabulous time.

I like the smaller ideas - just took a trip a few months ago and some airlines are very fussy about luggage/carry ons. You may have folks who pack without a lot of extra room. So, for traveling, I like the USB zipper key fob by Pickle Pie - can be used for chapstick/gloss that I find indispensable - it was free for awhile from Creative Machine Embroidery magazine but looks like it's not free now - perhaps you saved it from the freebies list, my purchased shoe bags are just cotton, no lining and drawstring - don't take up much room and ladies often have extra shoes that aren't the "smelly running shoe need plastic enclosure" variety, when I had to evacuate due to fire I'd forgotten my laptop charger so made myself a zipper bag just for chargers - people who travel might need them for laptops, pads, phones, earplugs - a few pockets inside for the small stuff, the bag itself could hold the pc power cord if anyone travels with theirs - but as others have mentioned, can be a generic zipper bag - the fall tone ones you'd made are lovely, I'm sure anyone would love to get one - there are always things to stash (young ladies have personal items related to the monthly bit - I've seen bags with 2 small pockets for panty liners/tampons, then larger area for pads - so the same bag for chargers could work for ladies things - you don't have to specify - but out of everything I think zipper bags or drawstring bags for things to wash are the most useful.

People like to take photos traveling - so a zipper case with D ring and very sturdy clip can hold the phone or camera in easy access on the outside of a bag or clipped or jean loop or belt / jacket. My small Canon measures ~ 11.5 inches all around width and 6 inches all around height - so would fit in a ~7 X 5 zipper case - you could line an inside 3 inch high pocket with flannel for a phone for folks who don't travel with a camera. And, (mind churning here), drawstring bags can be EITHER for shoes or washables if you don't embroider a shoe on the outside.
How big is your zip bag for chargers?
If people travel with their laptop - pc power cord/chargers are the largest (Macs are smaller) and just fit in a 6 X 10 zipper bag (with the cord wound, not just shoved :-). With inside pockets, you can squeeze in earpods - with Macs you can fit both the charger and phone charger in that size bag, although if you do zipper bags bigger than 6X10, that'd be better for fitting all the electronic extras. Don't go less than the 10inch length if you want to accommodate pc chargers.

My last trip away, I made a zippered coin purse out of four 5 inch squares for my niece in dark colours as she is very into black - but then I know her well. She loved it.
Can't recall what I gave her mother. Her father received a pot of honey.
I would love to receive a zippered coin purse with a small rose on it or a bird or a cat or a tote with a lighthouse embroidery. Do you have any state floral emblems - they are always well accepted.
But then I am not going to see you on your trip. :-)
My lingerie bags are all made of very lightweight synthetic fabric with zip closures. They do really well in the wash. About the size of my laptop or a piece of printer paper. They can be bigger or smaller, a square or a rectangle.
You are the designer - go for it.
And have fun on your trip.

Oh, your trip sounds like fun! I spent five weeks this summer traveling through some of these same states. Didn't get as far as Maine though. If you come through Mississippi on I-20 wave when you pass through Clinton (or stop and I'll feed you lunch). Would love to meet a Cutie!
How about a big bib for eating that lobster or a soft sun hat? Luggage tags or those cute luggage handle wraps that say "this isn't yours"?

Here is a tutorial for a tag made on the sewing machine. I can't seem to find the one I used that's made ITH. You could embroidery whatever you want on it before you put it together - "This isn't yours", "not yours", "This is mine", etc. Make it nice and bright so it stands out. Could make a matching set of two or three for a handy gift..

The lobster is gorgeous. I would think any light house picture would be great for Maine (and maybe pine trees). And please remember a gift is not measured by its size or value, but by the thought and love that went into making it.
