maryjo What have you done with the soil stabilizer? I called the company that makes it and they sent me a sample. Did you use 2 or 1 layer? What needle size? No problem with it? thanks

Hi, I have two weights of the soil seperator. The really lt. weight stuff is very thin like organza. I often use it in place of WSS for lace designs that I want to be more stable. Usually use 2 layers in opposite directions. This only works if it's not a very intricute design, and easy to cut around.I also use it to trace patterns from the multi size clothing patterns. The heavier weight I usually use as a cutaway. Depends on the project, how many layers I use. I also use the heavy weight for FSL that I want to be very stiff. One word of advice tho...do not touch this stuff with a hot iron!!! It is poly and will melt. When I need to press I use a med hot iron and a pressing cloth. I just posted some FSL Breast Cancer items and I used the heavy wt. soil seperator on the larger items(3 layers). The smaller ribbons and hearts were done with WSS. Hope this helps,*4U

My DH works at the County Landfill. He brought home a roll of the heavy weight soil seperator that someone was throwing away. It was New in the package and I think it's like 72 inches wide by 1500 feet long. Ask me why I use it??? It works and it was Free. I still have to buy specialy stabilizer but I won't have to buy cutaway for a very long time!!!

I am with lbrow - what is soil stabilizer. have not heard that term.

Actually it is "Soil Seperator". Originally designed to use in plumbing or landscaping. It makes a great stabilizer for some applications and it is way cheaper than what we usually use. It is made by "Carriff". They now sell it as a stabilizer. Check out their webpage.

Sorry..I didn't answer about needle size. I use the needle that is appropriate for the fabric I'm putting the design on. I never adjust needle size to the stabilizer used.
