In general there are two methods to do an appliqué.
- stitch the placement line and place a piece of fabric on top, which is cut back after stitching the attachment line
- the appliqué fabric is cut out beforehand using a template.
If you want to use the second method and there's no template given, stitch the placement line on a piece of stabiliser (fast forward to it if necessary). Cut that out as a template - use a tiny margin to make sure there won't be a gap when using it.
If you have both (embroidery) software and a cutting machine like a Silhouette or the Brother scan and cut you can cut it that way. IMO a bit too much work when you use it only once.

Hi scousess, great comment from Martine. As for me I just cut out a piece of fabric about the size of what I'm going to be appliquing. Hope you can work it out. There are lots of YouTube videos on how this is done. Luv Chris, Newcastle, Australia 🇦🇺
