Over the last few weeks I have been getting rid of some household 'stuff' we will never use again. Today was the turn of my 1954 Singer sewing machine. It has been taking up a huge amount of room and since I bought it in an auction about 20 years ago, I have used it once, just to try it out. I got a good price for it so I am pleased. Gives me money to buy lots of material 😄

I am glad you received good money for it. If you only used it once I guess you made the right decision. Enjoy going shopping.

To have a sewing machine since 1954 and to have used it once is some going Sarah. Enjoy spending the money for your fabric splurge

Caroline, the age of the machine is 1954. I have had the machine since about 1997. I actually bought it to have as a show piece - never happened

Kudos to you for having the courage to sell this showpiece. Now go have fun buying lots of fabric to fill out that enormous empty space.

Sarah good on you for having a cleanup, have fun buying lots of new fabrics. I am sure you shall use the extra space for new things. I have a singer machine of my mother-in-laws must be near a hundred years old , works like a dream, but not used much. As I do have the space to store i will never part with it. Good on you for having the courage to say good bye to old. Sandra.

Sandra, if the machine had sentimental value I would not have parted with it. It was not in very good condition either.

My favorite machine is a 1950's featherweight (13pounds) that I take when I sew away from home. Made of metal and sews as good as when new.

The box was in solid wood, covered with a rather nasty mock croc plastic. Machine and box weighed a ton. I could not lift it by myself.

Your a better person than I. I have 2 sewing older machines that I just couldn't get to work right and they are still setting in the floor in my tanning room.... just can't bring myself to get rid of them and they aren't that old, maybe 20 years or so..... glad you will be able to get you some more material... always fun to have new material :)

I am afraid that I am a bit of a tidy freak. DH and I started on our garden shed today 😄

Proud of you for reducing! I've been emptying a room to carpet and set up a new sewing room, but I've only eliminated a tiny bit. Maybe as I try to pack it back in, brilliance will strike!
