Oh, here we go again. Cutting cost at the expense of rural communities. I have worked in rural WA and now Qld. Here's a bit of info to throw at the Govt. About 240 million of medicare levy comes from rural areas (and then they get about $240 back). Here in Emerald Central Qld the service is so bad, we always seem to be having children and babies dying and they still don't get the point about the need for improvement in our country health system. Cut backs my rear, what they are really doing to rural health is "cut offs". I will certainly be signing the petition as a rural nurse and a mother who had to travel 8 hours for the last 7 weeks of a pregnancy and then another 5 weeks because bub was 5 weeks prem due to a shoddy health system. Thanks for letting us know.

Oh, the 8 hours was because even the regional hospital in Rockhampton which is "only" 3 hours away was not equipped enough for my potential disaster. And to think Emerald Hospital here has a whole ward sitting empty in darkness too.

Signature 3730, and still the rest of the family to add too. Will pass this onto everyone at my work, as I said, we are rural here, they will appreciate SA's plight.

Thankyou for that information I will write a letter to our local mp so he can take that info to parliment next time they sit. I have never been one to worry about the patliment and the going ons but this has really got my back up. I had my 3 children here but my daughter had to travel an hour to have her boys which i guess is no that bad, but with the cost of petrol and living expences it is making it very hard for pple. Just imagine if an eldely in gophas and one has to be taken to a city hospital, what about their spouse , how are they to get there to see there loved ones, if there is no family around, family and loved ones are what you need when you are sick, but the health minister doesnt care, I believe that if this happens then more pple will die due to the fact of distance from loves spouces. I hope this makes Sence.

Mollymarie, take these thoughts to your parliament as well.
cotton clothing - cotton grown in rural Australia. Nice fine wool suit, sheep in the country provide the wool. electricity - coal powered, coal mined in rural communities. Breakfast:weaties, toast, rice bubbles, you name it, comes from grain in rural areas. Bacon and eggs type of guy? Pigs and chooks are not farmed in the city (you idiot MP). Milk in coffee - cow from the country. Trip to work complaining about fuel prices, we pay more in the country. Lunch, nice juicy steak bred in remote outback cattle station. Salad or vegies with that? Probably grown in the country (unless they come from China and our famers miss out). Wash it down with a glass of wine with grapes grown in the country. Dinner, same again, not much grown in the city and if you have fruit and ice-cream for desert where do you think that comes from. Bit of TV and then off to bed in your cotton sheets and blankets. Where do you think the materials for those come from. So, Mr. Politician, if you shut down rural Australia, starting with the health system, what do you think you will be wearing or eating next week??????

I have sent this to our local mps and direct to Mr hill minister for health, I hope you dont mind but that is exactly how it is......... Thankyou

We really DO NOT want any cotton or rice farming in Australia. They are killing the Murray River!!!!!! Everything else I agree with.
by libster2896 04 Jul 2008
We have cotton here in Central Qld. otherwise to be honest, I probably wouldn't have thought of it, but then I suppose that just goes to show how far and wide our rural industries go and why we can't shut down our rural health system because where there is a farm and a rural town, there are people who contribute to the govt. coffers and who also get sick.
