HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL. I am back after a massive storm here in Sth Aust last Tuesday early morning. I lost power and without water as I do not have mains water and rely on power to pump the water from a tank into my home. The power came on again last evening at 6pm, so I had my first shower this morning as I had to wait for the hot water service to heat up. That was 5 days without power. A lot of food in my freezer to be thrown away. Hope 2017 is a better year.

Happy New Year to you too Lyn. I am sitting here in air conditioning and am sorry to hear that you have been without power for so long. Hope you have been keeping cool. I don't handle the hot weather very well these days, must be old age. LOL. Hugs Marg

Marg, In a way I am lucky as I have an old home with thick walls and is nice and cool in Summer but cold in Winter. Today is rather cool anyhow. 22C

Thanks & Happy New Year to You too. How frustrating that must have been at this time of year, especially. Even if your home insurance covers you for lost food from your freezer, it might not be worth claiming if doing so effects the cost of your policy renewal. Hope 2017 brings you better fortune and many blessings.

Thank You. Apparently for those who lost power for 48 hrs or more will receive $600 compensation. Helps with the food and again I didn't have much of a loss.

I hope that was the worst the year has to offer. Happy New Year - my neighbors are beginning to set off their fireworks, so it sounds like a lot of hunters in the woods after dark!

Yes I heard a few bumps and thought "What has gone wrong now", then realised it was Fireworks.

I'm so sorry to read this Lyn. I can't believe the weather you guys have been in my old home state. Something needs to be done too about loss of power again it's not good enough. Hoping 2017 brings much better things for you. We've been having heat wave conditions this past week, just had some lovely rain after another stinker today. Love Chris

Hi Chris, I have been in this home for 31 years and as the years go on the power situation is getting worse. We need an MP to live in this area and we would not have any more problems.

What a shame about your freezer food. At least you can claim for loss. When something similar happened where I am I started cooking everything up and giving it away to anyone that was not able to cook as we were still able to use our gas cooktop. How ever did you manage without water though?

I also started to learn about canning foods and now have a pantry of canned goodies if it ever happens again. It also saves some freezer space.

I didn't have a shower for the 5 days. Luckily I did have some water but just to drink. Had to wait for the Hot water service to heat up so yesterdays shower was nice but today I had the best shower I have had for ages. No gas here as I would have to have bottled gas and not sure about that in a fire prone area.
