UPDATE well my mbx v5 disc arrived in the mail and I have spent the last 3 days trying to get it sorted with the help from a very patient janome tech person. I didn't realise how much free space was actually needed to just install it so I first had to send many files to a separate hard drive to free up space. On my first install attempt my computer generated a G: drive and refused to install after 5 mins. That was fixed and then it stopped at activation showing an error each time I tried to reinstall. That turned out to be a weird problem to do with explorer( I don't use it for browsing but it is needed to use help files on a few programs) that was fixed and allowed the install to go ahead. Then my computer started showing a pop up each time I tried to open digitizer referring back to G: drive and some files that had been transferred to my external hard drive! Turns out that was something to do with one drive, something else I never use! Anyway it is now fixed and I have got some serious learning to do. If you happen upon this post having issues installing digitizer, Janome were a great help and explained everything clearly. I suspect most wouldnt have the same issues as I did as Janome had not heard of those errors before in relation to mbx.

The update to my janome digitizer mb should be here tomorrow. Is there anything I should do before I install it?

Hmmm...I can't remember if the update will carry over any of the motifs you may have created yourself...or if you have a special color palette that you use...I have many motifs that I have made myself and a color palette that I use as my original template...I would suggest you save them just in case you need to re-install them in the new version...

Also, be prepared as this version uses drop down categories and many of the icons that I loved in version 4.5 are now gone...it was a learning curve for me...and I still have to think about where they have put some of the tools...

Thank you, I haven't created any motifs yet so I am safe there. I am looking forward to the new style as I find the current one quite clunky to use. It is very similar to Microsoft photo draw that I used to used a lot before it was no longer updated for the newer Windows. Hoping I haven't gotten too used to it and the switch over is easy.

I forgot to ask does the update destroy the dongle to make it unusable?
by dragonflyer 13 Feb 2017
Yes, it does...the new software does not have a dongle...The dongle information will be transferred to the new software and you will no longer be able to use the old version...That is something I did not know when I changed to version 5...you will also LOVE the branching feature...

I always feel like I come away from one of these experiences much smarter, but not sure I wanted to spend my time getting that wisdom! Glad you're done and can sew bigger and better again.
