I can't believe how quickly this year is flying by. Just wanted to post a few photos of a quilt and reversible pillow I made, and donated to a fund-raising event. I must admit, I was secretly hoping that no one would place a bid so I could bring them back home for myself. But thankfully, they did sell, and for a good price! Hope you like them as much as the buyer did.

Beautiful! I think I would be like you and want to keep it myself as I love the Irish chain. Is this called the Triple Irish chain? What size have you made, a wall hanging or bed size? I thought of doing a green one like these fabrics and emb realistic wildlife for my husband or grandsons. This was some work for you, so you must have really wanted to support the cause. Thank you Toogie. It always amazes me when people actually want to pay money for something I've made! The quilt is a 65" square Double Irish Chain, a large throw size. The pillow is 16".
When I was asked to make something "crafty" for this event, my first thought for this project was to use my Irish wild flowers, or celtic knot designs in the cream blocks. But since I still have a lot to learn about quilting (this was my largest quilt project so far), I felt I should keep it kind of simple. For the one I want to make for myself, I think I will give the wild flowers a try. Can't wait to see yours. There are a lot of realistic wildlife designs out there that would make a gorgeous quilt for the men in your life.

That is my trouble it would cost me too much for all the designs I would need. I have some deer and elk but so are so many stitches it comes out hard as a board!

my personal observation of anything 'patchwork', is that the colours chosen are of paramount importance. the actual pattern doesn't matter all that much if the colours are right. Do love your choice of both colour and pattern.

Thanks Kim. I have been wanting to try this pattern, as I am thinking of making a similar queen sized quilt with embroidered blocks. I thought this would be good practice with all those corner points! I'm trying to teach nyself more about quilting, and the various techniques.

Thanks so much. Yes, they did fetch a good price. I am happy they went to a good home, but sad that I had to give them over to a stranger.
The new owners are not strangers any longer! Just an opportunity to find and develop new friends! If they were determined to win the auction then chances are good that they know how to take care of this beautiful creation. It sounds like they knew what a fantastic quilt you had made. I would not be surprised if they did not become regulars to see just what you create for the next event. We put so much love, time, and money into our creations from the planning of the quilt to the final delivery and hopefully also a glimpse of it in use, when we are fortunate enough to place a quilt with friends and family members. It is difficult to not know if they are being well cared for. I have done my share of adopting and fixing quilts that were placed in homes where the recipients did not have a clue as to the value of the gifts they had been entrusted with. I don't think you need worry over this one. Beautiful job, you can not tell that this has been your largest quilt project so far! I look forward to seeing what you come up with for your own queen sized quilt. Rest assured the people over the charity event are sure to remember to ask you for another crafty creation for their next fund raiser! Beautiful work! Pam

Thank you. I like it too. There are a variety of ways to put this pattern together depending on size of blocks, color schemes, or whether to include embroidered designs and what type of border to use. I think I will be making another one of these (but slightly different) for myself.

Thanks so much! My photos don't show the true colors very well. In reality, the darkest green is actually much brighter.
