I am looking to purchase a couple of feet for my sewing machine from an e-bay seller in the UK (Bedford Sewing)...the shipping is included in the price of the items...Has any US Cutie done this or does anyone know if there would be any customs duty I would need to pay...the total cost would be under $50 US Dollars...any information would be appreciated...Thanks!

Kim, i am not a US Cutie, but i have bought some sewing things from the States and had them shipped to Germany, and they go through customs, but i did'nt have to pay any customs duty. I think its the same buying anything in the UK and having it shipped to the States.

Thank you, Laura...I don't think there would be any customs duty, but this would be the first time I purchased out of the U.S.

Well my snippet of information is that it is a highly reputable company. I have bought from them a number of times and I have visited the shop too. I know that if I buy from the States I have to pay import duty. The dollar to the pound is to your advantage at the moment. I suggest that you put the information you need to know through a search engine and see what appears

Thanks, Caroline....I thought they would be...I am still waiting to hear from them to see if they can advise me...however, I am a bit skeptical if they will...unless they have shipped to the U.S. on several occasions before and know the answer...I have checked the U.S. Customs import website and can't find exactly what I am looking for...I think I need to contact the seller again and make sure they will send the item with the appropriate customs paperwork...thanks for your comments...

I would also like to know the answer to this question as sometimes the products available in the USA look very reasonable [I'm in Aust] Please let us know what happens.

Here in Aust the parcel has to have a value over $1,000 to pay any customs duty.
You can have as many parcels duty free as long as you stay under that amount.

I have had a look at the Aust Gov, web site www.border.gove.au to see about the Importation of goods. Seems that it's not really an issue under $1000 [excludes alcohol, tobacco etc]
I have purchased new items from the UK,USA ,China & other Asian countries & never had to pay tax.Only once did I have any trouble ,the Aust customs were either on strike or on a go slow work to the rules.
Items were under & $100.Just remember to use the currency converter & use paypal which adds about 3 cents per dollar to the final cost.Don't forget the postal charges either.Sometimes after doing this,it isn't such a good buy.
