Lillian, I am so delighted they took good care of Ron and you got to do some fun things too. I hope you do get a Hoyer Lift and the sooner the better. It will help you so much and keep both of you safe. We will keep praying for you both. Keep us updated.

When my sister was the caretaker for her husband she had to belt him into bed, the wheelchair and had a railing to belt him when he was sitting on the edge of the bed. The lift is a must and will help you greatly May God be with you both.

You will be so glad about the lift, except for the floor space it takes! Call the VFD any time you need to - I'm sure they are glad to help folks out who look like their parents or grandparents.

Glad Ron is home and sorry he fell. My sister used to keep a cow bell by my Mother's bed side and my Mother would ring it and you could hear it all over the house. I wonder if one can still buy cow bells. You know they wore them around their necks. I have a feed store near me . Perhaps I should check. Kay

Posted on your other message just a couple hours before you made your new post here, so glad that today was the day he was coming back home to you and that he had no injury from his fall. I am sure that the ambulance crew was more than willing to help get him up off the floor, and they too would be much relieved that he did not hurt himself beyond possible bruising. Definitely get a safety belt and if he would untie it, then get one of the vest belts that you can tie behind him. I am not sure if a cow bell would help, as he sounds like he is trying to help you, and to not make more work for you, so he might not ring a bell to get your help. Now bells on his feet or on a side rail so you could hear him starting to move around like he may be possibly be getting up, then in those cases the bells could help. I know my brain while laying in my bed I can feel like I can still do certain things and only when I am in the process of doing them does my body then lack the stability or strength. How frustrating this must be for him. I often think I need to get my abilities back, or I need to loose just a bit more of the memory of just what I use to be able to do.The lift would be a great blessing in helping to prevent the back strain you have been suffering with. Huge hugs and so glad your sweetheart is home with you once again. I am so grateful that hospice was able to give you the needed rest your body was in such desperate need of. Enjoy your Easter services, you told Rescuer that you are just plain old you,... I sometimes think that truly special spirits rarely seem to understand just how special they are. Oh Lillian, I'm so glad you got to get out, even if you spent time visiting Ron. Just a different environment and knowing you weren't the one who would have to 'tend' to him while there so you could 'enjoy' your time with him, makes a world of difference on your health/back.
I do hope you can get the lift for him/you. I know we need one for Avery. I haven't mentioned it but I have been down with my back for a week now. I didn't lift on her. All I did was bend to wipe Nora when she went to the potty. I had a shot last Wednesday, muscle relaxer, Celebrex and got a Tens unit. Do you have one? I'll let you know how I do with it. I know at PT they used it on my leg and it helped. Anyway, a lift would be so good for you (and us) as I know how your back pains. I don't want Ashley and SIL down with their backs, too, like me and my hubby. Hubby has 2 disc gone in his back and I have Degenerative Disc disease and Osteoporosis.
I'm glad and thankful our Father is looking after you both, when Ron falls. It would be too much for you if he breaks something and so painful for him.
I am glad you got this break and I wonder if you could do it again, say maybe every other week? That way you could get some rest and enjoy a little break, too. You could always visit him, or have a 'date' with him.
There is a lady here who does just that. Her husband is in some place (she is not able to physically care for him, like you) and she goes every day to see him for a few hours, except for the day she goes to the hairdresser.
It may be something you could consider.....

God bless your sweet, sweet heart! I'm so glad that you got some rest and had a chance to be free from pain for a bit. Hopefully, you will get the lift and remember that you both made it through respite for the next time it's available to you.
There is no plain old you. You are a daughter of the King and such a blessing to so many.

I am so happy you are back together and that you were able to get some much needed time for yourself. Falls can happen so fast. My dad had short term memory loss the last few years of his life and he was very unsteady on his feet. But he had been a farmer his entire life and loved being outside. He could not remember that he should not be outside by himself and no matter what we tried, he would still get there. Thankfully they lived on a farm, so he did not get far - usually just over to my house to visit. We were racking our brains trying to come up with a way to keep him safe, because he did have some falls and towards the end, he would have a few falls in the house. His hopsice Dr. gave us some info that put everything more into perspective. He told us that no matter what we did, Dad was gong to fall, especially as he became weaker. Even if he hurt himself, it would have been worth it because he was doing something he enjoyed at the time and that was what was important - making the most of what time he has left. After I accepted what he said, I was able to see it more from my Dad's point of view and didn't fret like I was before that. It is hard to explain, I still didn't like the possibility of him falling, but I also realized that I couldn't always prevent it from happening. I guess I was more accepting of it. My husband was also able to pick my Dad up if he fell also so did not have to call rescue. My heart goes out to you and your husband. Sending prayers and hugs.
