Another Peppermint Swirl Dress for Lia

This one is in rainbow colors. She's been singing and twirling all morning.

It took me 7 hours this time. Last time, I tried using a 28mm rotary cutter to cut out the 28 curvy pieces needed for the 14 flounces. So much better and faster than scissors. I was never confident in using a rotary cutter for non-straight edges, but I was surprised I actually did pretty well. I was able to cut 3 or 4 layers at once.

This time, I tried cutting 7 layers and it worked! Saved so much time.

Piecing also went faster as I have had some practice by now.

I made two changes to the pattern. First, I added interfacing to the bodice fashion fabric. It made a huge difference.

Second I sandwiched the seam that connects the bodice and skirt between the bodice front and bodice lining. I did the first one according to the pattern. But I was crazy about the way the seam was exposed, although I did finish with my serger.

So much fun! I might even make more! I was reluctant to start because it seemed to be very overwhelming, but now I am more confident.

I am with Lia. A dress like this needs to be swirled. Good job

Looking good! They are both just darling and have beautiful dresses to spin in.
I wanted to say I always finish my bodices with the skirt seam inside, too. We don't have to follow the pattern exactly, when we know a better way.

Thank you! You are right about that. I wasn't thinking too much when I made the first one. Good to learn from experience.

Great job on Lia's dress too Lucia. I love this pattern and I agree with you it's a long time cutting out, it's actually quicker to put together. Love Chris

Thank you Chris! Try cutting with rotary cutter next time. It's wonderful! I was scared to do it before, but it wasn't that hard at all! You get precise cuts fast. For this dress, it only took me about 15 minutes to cut out as I cut 7 layers together and I used fat quarters.

Thank you! The red and white is more striking, but the rainbow one is so soft and delicate. I love them both.

This one is so delightful too. Good idea with enclosing the waist. I don't like patterns that just have the waistline exposed either. It is not very comfortable. I might have to look into this dress, I know my 6 year old would love it

You've done a great job! I have this pattern, but I haven't gotten the nerve to make one yet. I'm sure the girls love to swirl in them.
