Another UPDATE

The zipper is now in and I have been spending hours upon hours hand stitching this guipure lace to the bodice. I was hoping to attach it by machine but the satin has a stretch feature and the lace doesn't so that will cause no end of headaches with puckers. I am having to sew the lace on with the dress on the mannequin with one hand between the satin and the lining. That way i can still access the inside of the dress in case any changes need to be made. It is taking so long as my hand get tired holding them in this position

I have also made a hoop to go under the dress so it sits nicely and doesn't get caught in a tangle when my daughter walks. My daughter worked out there was approximately 48 meters of tulle circumference on the dress. Two of the tulle layers are each made with 2 circle skirts sewn together. This was to reduce the amount of gathers sitting at the waist and to give the skirt a fuller look.

****

UPDATE
The skirt is now on. It will be hemmed once everything else is done. the zipper needs to be installed and I need to add the boning in too. Then to finish the bodice with lace and beading.
***
This is the progress of my DD's ball gown.

I will add updates here as I can

Great job, it takes ages doesn't it? I know I had metres for the girl's flowergirl dresses and I didn't use a gathering foot!!!! Love Chris

I was about to gather the traditional way and then I remembered I had a gathering foot that fitted this machine, I definitely a happy dance knowing how much time it would save

Looking good so far. Love the colour.
Keep your eye open at Markets or Shops closing down and you may find a smaller mannequin. I did years ago one from a shop about a 3 to 5 year old size for $10 got so much use out of it especially for pinning no stabbed kids.

Good idea. This one is a small ladies but not quite small enough for this dress.

WOW! This is stunning Sewmum1 - there must be over 20 metres of tulle in this skirt. The addition of boning and embellishments will definitely finish off the bodice too. Your DD looks great in it already! Love Chris

Thanks Chris. My daughter worked out there is about 48m of tulle circumference at the hem. Will take a while to trim!

Where on earth did you find lace like this? The dress is wonderful, and she is going to have a wonderful time.

It was from spotlight. I saw it quite some time ago and loved it. It is expensive but I bought half a metre when they had a 50% off sale. At the time I didn't know we would be using it for my dd dress. Luckily we had more than enough.

Coming along beautifully. Cannot wait for the next installment. My eldest daughters wedding dress had a bodice of guipure lace over pure silk which was so difficult to sew. It took me weeks to sew on hundreds of tiny seed pearls on the lace when the dress was finished.
