So sorry to hear that. A lot of Wal-Marts are doing that. Fortunately ours still carries fabrics. The one near my sister does not carry fabric anymore and they don't have anyplace close in which to purchase it. It happens to be a "Super Store" and our is not.

We went through New York during the holidays and it was $4.49 per gallon!!! Unfortunately we had to buy it but only got enough to make it to NJ which was the cheapest of the whole trip between Md and Conn.(3.93)

It makes me sad to see the fabric go..what are they thinking? I visited my inlaws in Bullhead City, AZ. and always look forward to the BEST part of the trip...visiting Walmart and buy some sewing stuff and low and behold the fabric department was gone . Now whats going to be FUN???

Many of the Walmarts are doing this. I have a new Super store Walmart that was built near my house. They only have 2 isles of fabrics and the cutting table and notions in between the two rows of fabric. A group of us called the toll free number and Emaileed Walmart to lodge a complant. A lady in Hoover stared a Email campaign and they stopped plans to cut down that stores Fabric Department. Sometimes it helps to let your feelings known. Good Luck . A flower for you.

Oh no! What part of TN are you in? Here in Knoxville all the Hancocks are gone, WalMart's downsizing fabric dept., just leave JoAnne's for so many things. Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? There are several in the Knoxville area and they do have a sewing dept. Not a LOT of things, but at least another store! I know they are also in Ala. Can check on line for store locations. With our sales tax, sometimes it IS cheaper to pay shipping from out of state! But I like to touch my fabric before I buy it!

That happened here with our K-Mart. It's ridiculous they no longer cater for their customers, I haven't been to K-Mart now in over 2 years. hnr, M

That's where the US went wrong. We gave up our wonderful smaller shops for these big giants like Walmart, K-mart, etc. I envy you for having so many nice places to shop!
Then Walmart decides what they are going to sell us! Our Walmart here still has a sewing department, and I sure hope they keep it!!

I'll take your gas price any day! We're at 4.60ish in San Diego for regular unleaded... How do these people that control the oil prices sleep at night?

I have 2 Super Walmarts near me and both got rid of their fabric dept. What a shame! I have one Joann's near me, but it needs to be bombed it's so bad! Consequently, I do a lot of intenet shopping, The shipping charge is becoming cheaper than the gas that I would use to go find what I need.

Well, for those of you that are in the San Diego area, go to Rosie's Calico Cupboard off of El Cajon Blvd (Near San Diego State University)... if you walk into that place, you will see more fabric than your imagination could possibly create! I am not kidding... Their prices are a little higher than Walmart, but the cotton fabric is excellent quality (and from good designers). Maybe they do mailings?

The wal-marts around here are doing the same thing. The one in st. augustine discontinued all the fabric stuff but ours here in palm coast survived since all the customers demanded it. They did redo it but it still is pretty good. Check out your yellow pages for quilt shops I'll bet there will be one near you. They have georgous fabrics, a little pricey but if you watch for sales you can get a good deal. Also check out for a Joanns, they are terrific stores. Good luck. Also you can get some really nice stuff on ebay.
