I do a lot of hand sewing in the evenings - mostly EPP. If I had £5 for every time I had to dismantle the sofa to find my scissors I would be a rich woman!

Hopefully, this will help. It is a cushion filled with polystyrene beads, topped with a thin board covered with fabric attached by Velcro. The pockets on the board will keep things safe, I hope. The cushion should also improve my posture so I don't get aching shoulders.
The embroidery designs are from Urban Threads - I separated a design into it's components. The needle pocket has a strong magnet inside.

Great idea. Is this one of the trays you can buy for laptops or lunch-on-a-tray?
I am mainly knit when watching TV and although I try to keep things like scissors, tape measure, cable needle, wool sewing needle on a tray and odd balls in a basket I have to look between the cushions and under the sofa all the time. Those things have a mind of there own if you ask me.

I looked at a laptop tray which was very slippery so I decided to make my own version. Cable needles are a problem for me too. There are probably several in the innards of our sofa!

A very clever idea to keep track of those pesky scissors! Love the fabric.

Super idea Sue, I keep a small cardboard box beside me. This will be my next project, however I think I will attach a fine stretch elastic on the scissors as well. Great thought to add a large magnet for needles that is my problem when I drop one I can't find it.

Great idea-I always having rolling spools of thread, scissors that want to fly somewhere and my needle always pinned to my self if not using it at the particular time.

It looks like you planned well to fit your needs. Love your bright colored fabric. IF I sew in the sitting room, I have a table by my chair I can lie scissors and such on.
When I was small my mom left her scissors on the sofa. Unaware, I sat down and they stuck in my outer thigh/hip area. I still have the scar. They were very long, very sharp pointed.
