Just so cross with myself and I am posting as a lesson in not what to do or rather to do. Before inserting a zip for an ITH purse/ bag, please insure that you have tested that the zip actually works. I made a zip bag this morning and when I went to open the zip before putting the back on, the zip refused to budge. Eventually after nearly ruining my hard work it did open. A lesson to be learnt. ☹️

OO. Good thing it opened. Rub with a candle or pencil (graphite) It will go easier.

Thank you for sharing. I don't think I have ever tested zippers before inserting!

That had to be frustrating. I have to admit that I never tested a zipper before. I guess I was just lucky. No mishaps so far.

Me, either. Thank you Sarah for learning the lesson for many of us.

You bought the zipper. How dare it not work! I've never even considered I might get a poor product in a zipper. As we say in the South, "bless your heart".

Glad you were able to save your project. I must admit I don't always test a zip myself. But if buying clothes I always give it a good test. Have found some on Jeans that don't work.

Learnt this lesson years ago. When buying a zip I always zip it up & down to see if it works before I pay for it.Another test I use on zips whether they are in a garment or not,is to pull the top ends of the done up zip apart to see if it opens up,if it comes apart ,it means your garment zip will come undone with movement, very embarrassing in trousers.

As you say......... very embarrassing

Great tip. I never check zips for my projects. Do check the buying clothes though. Thanks for the reminder. Hugs. Nan w

Last time I made an ith zipper bag I forgot to move the zipper to inside the bag so I had to redo the seam around the outside

I have yet to make that mistake. It is sure to happen one day

I quite often buy clothing with zippers in colors I can use at the local thrift shop...so I try to always check those zippers. It's even better when they have a "bag sale". Sometimes I can get 6 or even 10 zippers for $2.00 !! At that price, I don't mind ripping some stitches. But you gave me a good reminder to always check the zippers. Thank you.
