Have you ever heard of Book Beaus? They're just padded book covers for paperbacks, but they are pricey. I used a pattern from MoosebStitchin, and sewed this up today. I used fold-over elastic instead of a velcro closure. I'm pretty sure Sue has a book/notebook cover in her files too. Very easy and quick to do.

Interesting. Was this made in the hoop? I'd wondered about covers for paperbacks, but all mine are different sizes!

Yes, totally made in the hoop. Took three hoopings. This cover fits books up to 5 1/2" wide by 8 1/2" tall. My book is 4" by 7 1/2", and stays in there securely. I'll post a picture of it opened in a bit.

Thank you. From cutting and pressing the fabric to the end of stitching, it took about 45 minutes. The hardest part was that the elastic loop is placed inside out. It'll go faster next time. Every design I've purchased from Moosebstitchin.net has sewn out very well. I really like her zipper bags.

I never thought of a cover for a paperback book. It's a good idea! I've never heard of "fold-over elastic" before. How is it different than regular elastic?

Its a decorative, very soft elastic that can be used to enclose and gather a fabric edge by stretching it.

Thank you. It went together really well. Its for my oldest daughter, who goes everywhere with a book and a bottle of water. She's 30 today. Where does the time go.
