Thought I would show you my recycled project.

I buy my Rice in a 5 kg zipped bag so instead of throwing it away when empty I decided to recover it and use again
I wanted to try out machine applique so used some Calico off cuts and all scraps for the designs.
Everything used was scraps from other projects.
As of 1st of July Queensland Australia will no longer put your purchases in throw away plastic bags so thought this will be perfect for non food items.
Had a little trouble stitching around the zip that was already there but managed in the end.

Thanks for looking.

You've done well, in fact appliqué looks perfect. Love your bag. So is the original rice bag plastic ? If so, did it come with a zipper?

Thank you Toogie. It is a sort of heavy plastic type of weave with cloth handles and yes the zip was already in the bag. When you buy it there is a row of stitching about an inch further down that you remove when you open the bag at home and from then on just use the zip to reseal.

What a great way to use up scraps and help Mother Earth! Did you use the printed side of the rice bag too? I can't quite tell from the photos.

Yes I just made a slip cover and pulled it up over the printed side of the bag. If I look hard at the bag close up I can just see the print through the Calico but if I used a darker colour it wouldn't show.
