Oh woe is me. Have been asked for blankets for the dogs home I support for them to sell. 1 blanket done, when suddenly my machine decided it had enough.<br /><br />
Loose stitches on the top and birds nests underneath.<br /><br />
Took out bobbin case, cleaned throughly, new needle but all in vain. Have never had this before. With one blanket destroyed machine is now booked in with the doctor. Anybody have any ideas??? I am sure it is a tension thing.

oh dear, not a good thing. and it always seems to happen when you work with material which isn't yours.
on my machine I have problems when I put the bobbin turning the other side. But I'm sure you have already checked that.
Did you try to stich something else ? did that gave problems?

Yikes...I am sure you have double checked everything...but I would try regular sewing and see if you still have a problem...sounds like the thread is missing the upper tension disks...or the take up lever some how...
I know you have checked to see that you have the bobbin turning in the correct direction...but, I'm with Linda...turn everything off, different thread spool, different bobbin...and regular sewing first...keep us posted...I know how frustrating it is...Perhaps you can put an applique over the spot in the blanket that got chewed up..?

Do not know what you mean by ‘regular sewing’. I have looked again and it is definitely something to do with the upper tension as the thread pulls too easily ie. no friction

I mean sewing...not embroidering...maybe something is holding your tension disks open...if you have some unwaxed dental floss, you can run it through the tension disks and see if that helps...you can "thread the machine with the unwaxed dental floss and then pull it back and forth and it could clear anything stuck in the tension disks...just spitballing here to see if that would help.
Kim, good suggestion. Dental floss stays at the side of my machine. Just "floss" your thread path.
My machine is just for embroidery
Oh...I thought it was a combination sewing and embroidery machine...did not know it did just embroidery!

I had this happen a few years back on my Husqvarna SE and there was a piece of thread stuck in the top tension disk. I had to look with a flashlight in order to see between the disks. Cleaned it with a folded piece of cut away stabilizer and was back in business. Good luck. Hugs, Barba

If you open the side of your machine and look for a little wire towards the top and see if it is picking up your thread, if not see if you can manually pull the thread through the wire (fine crochet hook and tweezers help) then gently pull the thread down twice and thread the rest of the machine and do some regular sewing. If that has fixed the problem retread your machine and do some regular sewing. Best of luck.

It might just need a good clean & service by your doctor.Some times it is just a small part that needs replacing.Let us know what happens.

Does your machine have a plastic foot? I had this problem once and there was a hairline crack that opened and closed and caused the thread to mess up and get tangled up the top.
I would check both if you haven't already all it takes is a small piece of thread where it shouldn't be and all sorts of things happen.
I hope it is something simple and not an expensive fix.

The foot is plastic and I think that there might be a hairline crack. I will phone the shop tomorrow so they can order another one for me before my machine goes in.thank you very much for your post.

Hi Chris, I have been on the phone to the mechanic again today. He says that the cracked presser foot would not be causing the trouble as the upper thread might get caught which would result in the thread breaking. He thinks that a thread must be caught in the workings. I cannot see any thread but I cannot get into the workings of the machine.
