The place I've gone for fabric for many years is closing. The couple that owns the business is retiring. I will be left with JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, an expensive local fabric shop where I get my Bernina supplies, and a couple of little quilt shops. My source for quality cottons, Baby Lock everything, my machine repair place, and an area with jobbers odd lot will be gone!

So, decide which store you don't want to close next and patronize it. Personally, I find better quality cottons in little independent quilt shops. Hobby Lobby's cotton would be next, although most of it is crooked and from China. How far is it to your next repairman now?

This was one of the best stores and very profitable too. I don't know of a Baby Lock repair place. I will probably end up taking it to the Bernina/Brother shop unless a new shop opens with my repair people working there.

I feel your pain. I've got the quilt shop that does my machine maintenance, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart. Jo-Ann's moved out years ago. There are lots of shops in Houston, but I do not like driving there. Hope you can find some place not too far for machine maintenance.

There is a repair shop nearby but they damaged one of my new machines (just the outside) but refused to do anything but shrug. That is when I found that the fabric store I loved also did machine repairs. Then of course I bought Baby Lock machines that replaced the "old" machines.

Yes, I do have lots of choices still. So many of the people here sew and craft that the Hancock Fabric store in my town was actually profitable well into 7 figures a year. I would open a shop if I could. I just know my poor health would get in the way of "owner's hours."

I am so lucky to have had the same guy for 28 years now. Happened to service my Ruby and my 28 years old Bernette overlocker/serger today. He makes home visits, his van is his workplace and having the two machines serviced set me back €60 (slightly less in $s).

I have been so pleased with the service at the shop and the prices are good for this area. I plan to visit with the repair person to see where she will be working.

So very sorry to hear about you losing your source....it is so sad to lose our home away from home...it's a shame that someone couldn't take over the store to keep it going......wishing you much luck finding a new place to shop....

I loved going there to the back of the shop where all sorts of fabrics could be found. All the textures and colors would brighten my mood and set me back on the creative path again.

This is always so sad to hear. I do try to support the local mom and pops because of their care and friendships in the community. Too bad they couldn't find someone to continue the shop for them, or maybe they didn't even try to.

I hope they will consider it -- if they have an offer. I would love for it to remain and all the kind/helpful workers to stay too. They only have 3 shops. They know all their regular customers. I will miss them all.

It is so sad to see our sewing supply shops closing. We only have 2 here on our Island of Australia. The local Sewing shop sells quilting fabric. Another fabric store a 15 minute drive away and the next nearest 30 minutes away. Sorry to hear you are losing stores as well.

I cringe every time I hear of a fabric store closing. I KNOW an angel didn't get their wings when that kind of bell rings. We can have a moment of silence.
