Hello Cuties, this is a runner I made using Jenny Doan's Disappearing Pinwheel block pattern. Although I didn't use a layer cake I cut my blocks 10.5 inches, thinking that would be divisible by 3 equal parts of 3.5 inch. Well, my first block wasn't right. I knew as soon as I made the first cut it was wrong.

When you get your large pinwheel made REMEASURE as your block won't be 10.5 like you started with, it was 13.5 so divided by 3 equal parts, I should have cut at 4.5 inches. Live and learn, so I'm just reminding you of this in case you make one. No matter what size you start with, remeasure before slicing into those 3 equal parts.
I cut my border at 3.5 inches and my yellow binding at 2.25 or 2 1/4 inch. Overall quilted finished measurement is 17.5 x 41.5- The fabric is really pretty but the picture was taken at night and picture doesn't do justice to colors.
I have one more runner to make and then that's it. A friend took my top home with her to see if she had a backing to match. Maybe she did and maybe she will go ahead and finish it :) ... lol
Anyway, just wanted to tell you my first block mistake so you wouldn't make the same one I did. (And to think, I made this block before!-look at the link. I also have the link for the You Tube there)
Have a blessed Sunday-Toogie

It's lovely, Toogie! I love that pattern and have made it many times...It can be tricky cutting blocks to the correct finished size somtimes...and a layer cake square is only 10 x 10....

Yes, I know but I had originally wanted it and cut it larger. After squaring my big pinwheel I ended up with 10.5-I like this pattern too.

I take sleep by spells. I just recently started sleeping more than 5 hours and did that about 2 or 3 weeks but last night I only slept 3 hours. I don't get up and sew though. I try to watch tv so maybe I'll at least doze. I sat with my niece and her dh in church and told her if I fell asleep just don't let me fall on the floor!-lol

Math class had a purpose, who knew. It's more than I can follow without watching you do it. You got a truly lovely result and should be very proud.

I told someone recently you need to know math to quilt. Also, cutting accurately is first most important and seam allowances need to be consistent no matter if 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch, just not both.

You are amazing. How do you get all these things done in such a short time? Anyway I love this pattern and your runner looks perfect.

Lovely! I still think you are making amazing projects. I admire you because my vertigo brain can't grasp the math.

I do too Chris, I love how Jenny makes it all look so easy and is easy, her way. So much better than cutting all those small pieces. Thanks!
