is like to live in a country prone to bush fires. Keep your spirits up. Keep safe. We are thinking of you. Ricky.

Yes, you may be miles away from the fire but still get affected by the smoke. I don't know what it is like in America, but here in Australia with our gum trees (eucalypts) they literally explode into flames, making it extremely hard for our fire fighters. It is real scary. Ricky

Thank you Ricky for posting this - not too sure how many of our family are in the line of fire - if they are - they haven't or wouldn't have time to log in and let us know - as for the smoke - I live two states away and we have smoke all in the air here from it. I can't even imagine living close - all our winds come from CA and our air quality is poor at the time - thank your for posting this and we all just need to stop and pray for all.

I lived in California my whole life before moving up here in 2003. Every year we had fires to deal with somewhere in the state. Twice right at the end of my block. I can't begin to tell you how much outside help is appreciated. It came so early this year. I can only hope the worst is over and not yet to come.

California seems to suffer every year from these fires and so many are co carelessly started. I live on the east coast side of US. I has been so dry here that I am not surprised we don't have something burning.

U do know they have a good many eucalyptus trees n Ca. don't u Ricky. My mom use to say that's how some of the fires started "trees exploding into flames. she had retired n Redding,Ca. & is now buried there. My half Bro. lives @Manhatten Beach, Ca. & he is right on the ocean so they don't have problems with the fires. *4U

No there just have problems with landslides! <G>
And yes, eucalyptus trees line some of the streets here. Depending on where you live, they may be on almost ALL of the streets! There are also many who have them on their property in in their yards.

Yes we in Aus know all about exploding Eucalypts and there probably isn't single home here that doesn't have at least one "Gum" tree in their back yard.
It's the 'oil' that causes them to explode. I just bet you guys are sorry you imported them from Aus back in the 19th century, even though they have a lot of character they're a damnable nuisance at times. hugs, M

I am in CA, Los Angeles area. Actually I am right in between L.A. and San Diego. We haven't had any problems down here yet. Our turn was last year. There was a fire just across a hill from where I board my horses. We had horse trailers (horse floats for you Brits) standing by ready to load everybody up and get them out of there.
A couple years before that, when the fires were so close before, you could see the flames across the road from where I was keeping my horses at the time. Those horses should be getting a complex by now. Hey, maybe I should just get rid of the horses and, voila! No more fires! I wish it was that easy. Not that I would give up my 'babies' for the world...

we came close to losing a house about 12 years ago from bush fires,it is so sad to see I went to work left my kids 18 & 10 at home the big one rung his dad to tell him about the fire,we were not aloud home they wouldn't let us back in to get the kids ,my hubbie drove through road blocks threaten the cops and got back to the kids to find my son on the roof with hoses running in the gutters of not only our house but the houses both sides of us , he blocked the cutters and filled them and made his little sister stay inside out of the smoke. we were lucky but it was so sad to see all the little animals that lost there life in the fire.
