Hello Cuties! I saw this pieced braid a few days ago made with denim and I wanted to try it. I put a few rows together and told my daughter I didn't know what I was going to make with them....Well, you know I like to make bags and decided to make a tote.

No outer pockets on this one. It has one zip pocket on the lining and a zippered divider pocket (for lack of what to call it) in the center to secure things like your wallet and more. On each side of the divider, it is open to drop things in, like cell phone, etc. I also put 2 key straps, one on each side seam of lining.
I think this would be better done with a cotton fabric as it has so many seams. I broke a needle and bent another was so thick... :-(
For the denim I used a half hexie ruler, charm size, I got from MSQC that I have been wanting to use. I embroidered my name and almost placed it on the bottom-lol-I put it so low! I did it before I boxed my corners.
Every piece was made from my stash. I needed the darkest color jeans for contrast, but I would not use these again. I had a little trouble, because they were a stretch, but I think I conquered in the end.
Hope you like this new tote. Have a nice evening, night or day where ever you are!-Toogie

I like a challenge so I guess the answer is 'No". My SIL ask if I was going to start making bags like this now. I told him no, it's one of a kind,I just wanted to see if I could do it.-lol

I love it, Toogie. Usually those braided pieces are made at 90 degree angles, I love the effect of your 60 degrees. Great bag!!!

Thanks mops, I just used a ruler with no idea the degree. You're the smart one here.

Awesome job on this bag Toogie. I've got a pattern that I've had for a year which I want to make into a bag, but have yet to give it a go. Love Chris

I know what you mean Chris, about time, but I didn't have a pattern for this one. Is your pattern a tote? I'm curious.-lol
by pennifold 14 Mar 2019
Yes, it's tote style, but has lots of zips and piping etc. I'll eventually get to it. Love Chris

I think I'm using it up and then they tell me they have more. When my SIL came in, I told him these were his old jeans (except for the stretch), he told me he has more he'll bring next time.

Great bag. Toogie! Your bags are all so well done. As far as your name placement, I would have thought you had picked the spot...it think it is exactly where it should be!

Thank you. If you're uncertain and need help, just you tube and watch videos, to build up your confidence, then just cut and sew and most of all have fun!

On Blueprint or Craftsy there is a pattern called Reversible Tiki Tote by Midnight Quilt Show's (I think her name is ) Angela Walters. While not this hexie pattern it is a braid. Link is below.

I have not made this one though, but you can also watch her on You Tube, if you don't understand something. Good luck-Toogie

Toogie, love your bag. Jeans these days are not like the old ones.
I have bins of old jeans I want to make some bags and quilt from them.
Thank you for the idea and the link for the bag pattern
