This coming from a husband,"I didn't know Sewing Can be Hazardous to your Health" when he helped his wife Martha come into our quilting meeting. She doesn't even know how it happened, but somehow her rotary cutter got knock off or just fell, on top her foot. Now she has 5 STAPLES in her foot, not stitches! So beware and be careful my Cuties!

OUCH!!! That would have hurt. I'm always very careful with mine and close it as soon as I've finished cutting. Thanks for the warning. Love Chris

I recently started doing the same thing Chris, as those blades are sharp, even before this happened to Martha. Martha faints when she sees blood so it was a good thing Marty was there when it happened.

Oh she came and she still sews. She's been sewing all her life. Her mother quilted too and recently died in her 90's. My sister a retired nurse was a caregiver for her mom when she was here.

.....exactly why I have a rotary cutter that automatically closes the blade as soon as there is pressure off of the blade!

Emily, another lady in our group, has one like that, too. Is yours blue? I think hers is.

I have several rotary cutters and ALL of them automatically close when there is no pressure on the blade...don't have any that don't automatically close!

My old Fiskar's closed..in fact it closed when I wanted it to stay open, is why I now have my Olfa one.

Oh goodness, hers squirted blood, with her heartbeat. I did that one time opening a can. As the doc stitched me up the blood would squirt him.

Oh dear. One must be very careful when using rotary cutters. Hope her toe heals quickly. Hugs

It wasn't her toe, was the top of her foot, but thanks, I hope it heals well too. We go on a long trip in a few weeks.

This is why I get mad at my daughters for not closing the cutter after each cut, my youngest went to pick it up by the top and cut across her fingers a painful lesson.. Hope she heals quickly.

Ouch! I had no idea this could happen. And since I'm usually shoeless in the house, I guess I had better be more careful. I hope she manages to heal quickly from this bad cut.

Just close it up after each cut, if it doesn't automatically close. Thanks she was suppose to back to doctor this week.

WOW! That would be terrible.
Sounds like a timely reminder to get into the habit of always locking the cutting wheel as soon as you finish each cutting run and not wait until the end when you have made all the cuts required.

I had just started trying to remember to do this. I was thinking so as not to get an unwanted cut, in my fabrics, lying around. I hadn't even thought of it falling and cutting my feet.

I've done that and now I never wear flip flops while using a rotary cutter! My DH offered to buy me so steel-toed shoes. LOL!

lol-Martha's hubby said he'd get her some boots. I said then if it fell, it would slice her leg open ,when it falls in the top of her boots! She grimaced.
