I use the bobbin winder instead. Reason: I accidently got some thread wound around the hand wheel. I finally got it out after time. What a mess!

I've done the same thing wrapping it around the wheel. I've also wrapped it around the spool under the bobbin while winding it. It is a mess and practice with patience that I don't want to repeat. I always double check now.
