Cutie's, when stitching on a blanket and using a design with knock down stitches, do you use same color thread on top and bottom/bobbin? Or does it matter?

To me it is a personal preference... Depending upon the project...but I usually match the color thread of the knockdown stitches to the color of the blanket, and that would include the bobbin thread too...also remember that your stabilizer will be stitched and really cannot be removed unless you use WSS stabilizer and wash it out after the embroidery is done....

Why skip the knockdown stitches? I would use the same color as the blanket for KD and bobbin. Also I use WSS for all things like towels and blankets where you want the stabilizer gone. Hugs. Nan
I didn't skip them, Nan. Look in Projects. My reason I thought I didn't have enough red thread to do a bobbin too. I also was short on WSS but I made it!

I usually do not do knock down stitches. I use a very fine tulle and stitch over that. It will tear of easily around the design.

That is good to know Angie. I will have to give it a try. Will it stay in the design, say if you did lettering, so it will continue to keep the pile down?
I have used tulle too and it stays in the design. Don't use a really stiff tulle as it can be scratchy along the edges when removed

Tulle is great if you are not using a patterned knockdown stitch that will also add some dimensional interest to the design...It also depends upon how much "open" space there is in the design...if there is quite a bit, then the tulle will sometimes "poof" up and not be as "invisible" as it might need to be...

for towels etc. i usually do the design then add a cotton backing with a frame design...wendy

Always. Even when I did a monogram making the back reversed. Just keeps it looking more tidy.

Look at my pics I just put in Projects. If you click on the picture it should enlarge for you to see them. They are stitches that hold down a fluffy fabric so your design that you want to see won't get buried in the pile/fluff/fleece fabric.

I try to because a blanket is looked at on both sides. If it's a decorative towel that will always be hung I don't.
