Update below-Hello Cuties, this morning my brother in law is having surgery. The orthopedist is going to remove the vertebrae’s with cancer and put in rods, plates, etc about 12 inch incision, not sure how many vertebrae tho.
It is necessary because he was falling and the dr said without trying this he would become paraplegic and also lose use of bodily functions.I don’t want to burden you all with more that is not even in my thoughts. I just ask that while you are praying you would include him and his surgeon. His name is Douglas. He is 69 the ‘baby’ of the family, my husband’s youngest brother.
Update 4 hours- still in surgery...nurse called said he’s doing good

Toogie I have been thinking positive thoughts for your brother in law. He is lucky as in the UK all elected ops are cancelled currently and only emergencies are going ahead. Good to get a update during the surgery.

I wouldn’t say lucky. This surgery was needed immediately to save him from being paralyzed. Cancer is aggressively attacking the spine. Here too all ‘scheduled’ surgeries are postponed. Wife could not even go in hospital with him and he will be there days.
Toogie I apologies if I have caused hurt. I know a number locally who have had cancer treatment stopped at the moment due to the pandemic. Do keep us updated with his progress. Our healthcare nurses doctors etc are amazing people.
You have no reason to apologize, I hope I didn’t make you feel bad. I just wanted you to understand it was an emergency surgery, not anything he could postpone. It’s just a sad situation at a terrible time. Love to you-Toogie

Surgery finally over-The dr said he got what he could but some Cancer is in the muscles and spine and he couldn't get that out.
Said pain should be better now, as he was able to get it off nerve.

I am sorry that not all the cancer was able to me removed. I pray that the pain will be gone, after recuperation.
While that is not the best that you could expect, at least he'll be more comfortable once he gets out of the hospital. I'm sure you are grateful for the time he has. This is not an easy road to travel. Remember to take care of your self and do things that reduce your stress level too.

So sorry to hear that Douglas is having to go through this major needed surgery at a time when he cannot have his family around him for support. Hopefully, this surgery will help relieve his pain and that the cancer cam be mitigated with cancer drugs. Prayers for Douglas.

Douglas’s surgery was 3 days ago. He is still in hospital. In pain and having a hard time getting up and trying to walk. Hopefully each day will be better.

Thank you Chris, this brother Douglas came home today another Dean is in ICU. Dean is 81 and has congestive heart failure.
