I back-up my designs on a USB stick. However, these are notoriously unreliable. You may wish to invest in a portable hard drive.

Unreliable, meaning they can suddenly not work any more. Bad news, doesn't happen often.

External disc drive, memory sticks, CD's. I even have some on floppy discs (loads really) for my Galaxie 3000. I have got to the stage that I deleted some of the ghastly poor quality designs that I picked up as freebies when I started machine embroidery. You choose just the right place for your useful question.

I do pretty much the same as everyone, plus my hubby has paid for Carbonite, a nice gift I hope you figure out a way that works for you.

Hello, you can buy a memory stick or a portable hard drive only for your embroidery designs. Check Amazon and Walmart, always they have a large selection and good prices. Check the compatibility with your PC.

I back up to external hard drives - I have several that I rotate between backups.

As someone who has had pc,external hard drives & USB stick die on me.
I save all my designs onto a usb stick & every few months save copy them onto a external hard drive. At the beginning of a new year ,I copy all the designs from the external hard drive onto a DVD.This works for me.

I first put mine in a monthly folder ex: My Oct. 1 thru Oct. 31, 2020 and after the end of the month, I download the file to a CD. Then I put the original downloaded designs in their separate folders by what the folder contains. EX: Alphabets (individual folders by the giver of the designs-Children & etc. That way I can keep up with the designs. Main folder is listed as Holidays, then I break it down to what holiday it goes into. Yes, it sounds like a lot of work, but I can my designs I'm looking for.

My question is When you download designs, free or not, do you keep all the formats sent to you as well as other info such as colors to use? If so, why not go through and delete all that is not necessary? And while you are at it you can delete those you will never use! Hugs. Nan

I back up my entire computer about once a month to an external hard drive. I have a "Touro." A few months ago, I had my laptop in the shop to have a problem fixed. When I got it back, they had deleted 9 of my programs and several folders. Fortunately, I was able to put everything they had deleted back on the laptop from the Touro. You just never know when you might need to do this.
