Hello everyone. I've been reading the wonderful support all of you are sending to Toogie and anyone else who has experienced the hurricane named Delta. And I realize many of us have little to no experience with hurricanes. So here's a quick education on the subject. And i hope others chime in with more info. I am not the greatest communicator so always appreciate help.

Hurricane season begins every year on May 30th and it lasts trough November 30th. Yes folks 6 months. And there have been hurricanes before May 30th and even into January, believe it or not! So there is over 6 more weeks of hurricane season. Hurricanes are labeled according to the power of the winds with Category 5 being the most destructive. Then on the coast, people need to be aware of the storm surge which means how high the waves will be and how far inland they will go. And then as Toogie's pictures show the flooding can be horrendous and interfering with getting help to those who need it.

Hurricanes can occupy immense areas and continue their destruction far inland. Hurricane Michael was over 100 miles wide alone and its severe destruction could be seen for close to a hundred miles inland before it lost the majority of it's punch.

I hope this helps to answer some questions. Like tornadoes, earth quakes and fires, hurricanes can and do shake up the world and forever change the lives of many people. Fortunately, most hurricanes are Cat 1-3 and the wind damage far less. Flooding is always dangerous. And thank goodness humans are creative and figured out ways to keep houses together and people safer.
