Hi Cuties, I just wanted to share with you all why I haven't been on here as much during the past few months.

As many of know we have our Amy, Steve, Ophelie, Delphi and Maisie (mini Groodle, golden retriever cross poodle) living with us and life is hectic with them all here.
Their house is coming along well and it's huge! We had a lot of hold ups due to such inclement weather, but now the inside stuff will start, like internal walls, plastering, plumbing, tiling, electrical wiring etc. The builder is still saying September/October, but we all hope it will be sooner!! he he he!

The second issue is my dear Mother, over the past year she has been getting worse with her memory and things she is doing. I only live a 5 minute drive away from her, which is great in case she needs something.

We've had her assessed by our New South Wales health department ACAT team (Aged care assessment team) and have set in motion things to be able to help her stay as long as possible in her home, but the way things are going I don't know how long that will be.
Mum's doctor has sent off for her to see a Geriatrician and that is taking weeks just to get an appointment. Then we can put a 'name' to what stage my Mum is at.

My poor sister Jewls (66) is going through something similar with her partner as he has Stage 3 Vascular Dementia. I believe there are 7 stages and I'm sure my Mum is close to Charles. Charles is 86 and my Mum is 87.

Now Mum is doubling up her tablets. I take her shopping to make sure she is eating, but she is cunning and says that she has had meals. I've found things still in her freezer that I've made! Well, Friday she got her Webster pack (tablets in little blister packs) and there were a week's worth of tablets. Saturday she took her dose, Sunday I went to pick her up for church and checked the pack and there were 2 more days missing! I checked them on Monday and she had taken 2 lots out of the pack and had them on a saucer. I asked her why she did that, she had no idea. I went there yesterday and there are none, she's eaten her whole week's worth in the 4 days! So I went to her chemist and explained what is happening and they knew something wasn't right as she keeps saying she doesn't have any. Long story short. I now have a month's worth of her tablets and I will go over every morning about 7.30 ish and watch her take them. She has to take her blood pressure tablets as they are the most important.
With regards to money, she isn't really sure what coin is what, so I help her with that. She can still do all her household chores and we've had a gardener come to put her garden into shape which makes it easier to maintain.
My sister and I are her legal carers/Guardians/Enduring Power of attorney etc. But of course with Jewls living in Tumby Bay, South Australia it's all up to me to look after Mum. I'm glad we organised Mum's will with our lawyers last year, because as the lawyer told me if we had waited any longer her cognitive reasoning would have impeded her making her will. Jewls and I are the only recipients, there are some shares we will need to sell before Mum dies as it's so difficult when someone has died to go through all of that.

Mum's home is beautiful, so we are going to try and keep her there for as long as possible, hence us trying to get all possible care through our government.

Sorry for the long explanation, but I'm sure many of you have gone through the same thing with your parents.

May God bless each one of you and thanks so much for always being here to pray for and care for us. Love Chris

Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time - my mom is aging too and I must watch for this type of decline so we can take action, if needed.

Oh Chris that is a handful. I wonder if others in the family can help as well. I am 10 years younger then your mom and often I can not think of a word. It always makes me wonder. For a while I had my brother in law and his wife under my care. One with Alzheimer and the other with dementia. Not sure what the difference is but it is not easy. I will pray for you and your mom. Hugs

So sorry to read what you are going through with your Mum. I have a sister in a nursing home. Before she went in the home she was in one of their independent units. She was not taking her medication. The nurses started coming in with them each morning and leaving them on the kitchen bench and that is where they would stay. Eventually they put her in the home. She is quite a distance from me so I cannot get to see her as often as I would like to. I ring her up a lot and she tells me all sorts of strange things like she had been away and they kept her room for her etc. etc. I asked where she had been and she told me in her own house and the unit. It is just so sad to see someone you love end up like this.
My thoughts are with you, your mum and your family.
Nice to hear Amy's house is coming along. Hugs

I am so grateful your mum has 2 daughters who care for and love her so very much. Don't you worry about us. You take care of your mum and build as many treasured memories as you can to add to those you already have. I'm glad you are able to get such good medical care for her and the added help of a gardener. Please let us know how she is doing so we know what to pray for, for you as well as for your mum. Hugs to you and your mum and Trevor too.

Yes I have been through this with my dad. I know how hard it is to care for those you love. Losing your mind is a terrible thing. My dad was not taking his meds and my sister and I had to go every day to make sure he was taking his med correctly. We had to put him is assisted living home to be safe. IT is a hard decision. Prayers are coming your way for the strength you need to care for mum.
Wish we could do something for you. you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope mum can stay in her house longer... HUGS Suzanne
PS everyone who sees your gift loves it. IT is beautiful!!!

Thank you my dear friends, I've got tears streaming down my face reading all your responses. A big thank you to Sarah too for writing to me privately.
You all know I'm a Christian and I have faith in my God to watch over me and my family. I'm 69 come this October and Mum is 87, she was only 18 when she had me and I left South Australia when I was 21, for 30 of those 47 years I moved away from home I didn't get to see her but once a year. We always talked on the phone, but having them come up here to live was the best decision they could have made.
So for whatever time we have left with her I'll be there for her. My sister is feeling so lost with her partner going through it too and not being able to get up here, but once she gets Charles some respite she said she would come up and stay for a couple of weeks, if she can.

Last night I was involved with a World Wide Alpha Conference from England and it was so uplifting to see the World wide community of faith, all nationalities, all faiths talking about a revival and we all need a good kick up the backside to wake up to what is happening throughout the world. The Holy Spirit is working amongst us and I pray that Love will cure all our needs. Thank you once again, love Chris

Chris I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you and your family especially emotionally. I will pray for you, your family and your Mother for the Lord's strength to help you as you go through this and that yours and your Mothers needs will be met recognised and supported.
How wonderful that you belong to a church that you know will provide help and support.
Love Lynne. Far Sth Coast.

Chris, I am sorry that you are having to go through this with you beloved Mum. In a way we all kind of know her from your pictures and posts of her. We went through something similar with my Dad before he passed and now I am an the sole caretaker of my Mother as my brother lives 2000 miles away. My mother had a difficult time with my Dad loosing his memory. She asked me once, how I dealt with it and this is what I told her - I know that he is going to loose more and more of his cognitive abilities. But, I don't focus on what he can't do. Yes, we have to address some of them, but I want to focus on what he can do and enjoy being with him for as long as I can. And if that means listening to the same stories over and over or the repeated questions, then that is what I am going to do, Towards the end, he was in Hospice, so I took over most of his physical care as well. It wasn't easy watching your parent deteriorate but I wouldn't trade the privilege of caring for him for anything. Hugs. and prayers. We will be with you in spirit as you care for your Mum.
