We are celebrating our oldest Grandchild, Vivian's 9th birthday this evening. We bought her a sewing machine for her very own. She is young but is very crafty, hand sews and wants to machine sew. So, with the machine we got her material to sew a pillow case. She and I will each sew one each together this week. I also started her a little button box with old and new buttons (just an old Christmas tin - similar to one like I have). Do you have a button box - or am I just old fashion? Thanks for looking! Old fashioned? I don’t know but I have some tins with buttons. So glad to hear this . Nora is 8 now and I bought her a brother sewing machine several years ago. Her mom doesn’t sew and with Covid so prevalent I can’t teach her. Love that you did this and that she is interested.

Oh, Toogie, I am so glad you have done the same! I thought I would start her off straight sewing with a pillow case. She will make one for her 5 year old cousin Henry and I'll be stitching one for her. I also want her to enjoy making something for someone else. Hugs, Laura

Happy birthday Vivian! What a wonderful grandmother you are. I think it is wonderful that she is already so crafty. I also have a pretty decorative tin I use to hold many of my buttons. I think it's a great way to keep my buttons. Enjoy celebrating.

Lucky day for Vivian. Congrats on the new machine and many happy hours of sewing ahead. Yes, I have button jars and cards and cans... Have a great collection of shell buttons to put onto clothes I buy second hand!

Lovely idea of the sewing machine and also the button tin. I started with a jar but now it is a box full of buttons. Can never have too many bits and pieces just in case. If you are able to go out to the shops maybe a trip to some charity shops so she can hunt around and maybe find some sewing treasures herself and also learn the art of making something from an item no longer wanted.

My daughter, Katie told me this morning that Vivian told her before she fell asleep - "Mom, I got my very own sewing machine!". That made me feel so good. I was afraid there was some game or toy she didn't get and would be disappointed! Vivian always enjoys looking through my button box. Hugs to you! Laura

How wonderful that Vivian now has her own sewing machine! I also have button jars and bins...some of them belonged to some past generations of mine... You should both have so much fun making the pillow cases and a great beginning project for Vivian too!
