Finally, last night I got some sleep. My husband spent last week in the hospital. He's 92 and has very thin skin and is prone to get infections on his shins. He bumps the and it tears the skin. Someone now comes to the house every day for IV and wound care. The problem is his brain isn't functioning very well. I've had to hide some of his meds so that he doesn't take them inappropriately. A lot of old age issues.
Since I haven't been home, I haven't been on the computer. At least, for now, I finally have everything under control...until the next crisis! I'm just so happy that he is still with me!
I was thinking about getting some shin guards...like they use in sports like soccer...to wear, but he says he won't wear them, so I didn't bother. Cellulitis is mostly on the legs and arm. He gained 19lbs in water and legs are swollen and looks like elephant legs! His doctor put him on some pills to get rid of the water. However, I have to get up at 3am to give him the pills. The good part is that the pills are getting rid of the water so he can walk better and not in so much pain. He gets them at 3 AM! I fall right back to sleep again which makes me happy.
He wants to pass and I sure understand why. Some things you just have to live through. I just do my best to keep him comfortable.
His legs/feet are so swollen that he can't get his shoes on. I got a wheel chair that fits in the trunk so he doesn't have to go outside in his socks. His arm is swollen too. Today, the pills seem to be draining all that extra fluid out of his body so he is more comfortable and not in so much pain. I also got a caregiver to come to the house on the day that I have doc appts., take the dogs sheep herding (they'll be happy to see the sheep again (but the sheep may not be so happy), shopping, etc.
At least now things seem to be under control, and he seems happier and I'm not so tired.
