I bought my machine in 2009 and the Magic Box was at least 3 years dead then. I think you're not going to be able to resurrect it. Maybe someone who lives outside the US has figured a way, but it is extremely outdated, along with the embroidery "cards

I am sorry but I do not know how to help, I agree with graceandham. This product is extremely outdated and I do not have much hope you will be successful installing it.

I cannot help re your Magic Box but I know that others use softwear that doesnt break the bank. I will let others give ideas on that one. Hopefully someone will be along with ideas to get you up and embroidering

I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this and I hope it doesn’t sour you on embroidery. I’m not really savvy with computers but hang around, someone will come along with advice for you.

Hi Jax, I agree with everyone else. If you can tell us the name of your sewing machine, eg. Janome, Husqvarna Viking, Brother, Elna etc. etc. etc. Sometimes someone on here may have a machine similar.
I was just looking up this on the internet and most sites have said that the Magic Box is not suitable with Windows 7, sorry! I do hope that someone from the sewing machine's company may be able to help you. Good luck in your endeavours to work it all out. Love Chris, Newcastle, Australia.

Hi and welcome to Cute. I am afraid to say that I do not think you are going to get the Magic Box to work. In 2008, I bought a second hand Bernina. It came with a Magic Box and several cards. I am sure I had XP on my computer at that time. I really do not know what to suggest.

I have had 2 magic boxes for years. You had to have a number from them to activate it. Then, one day, it just stopped working on both of my computers, even the XP one that is very old. I have no clue why they stopped working. I could not get it to function again. Even the website for it no longer supports it. So, I could not write to the cards that went with my sewing machine which meant I could not do ME on it any more. That really upset me.

However, there is another company that has a system that will write to the cards. I bought their product and it worked perfectly. I can't remember the name right now, but eventually I'll rememer it. So, if your sewing machine requires a card that you insert into it, there is hope.

Since I got my new machine that takes an usb drive, I haven't used the machine that requires the cards.

I am thinking you will never get it up and running. I would see if you can get your money back on the machine. If you have all this trouble just to get started you will not get the pleasure out of embroidery.

I have a Brother that has the card slot. I use PED-Basic. It’s a pes card writer for a BROTHER machine. (Did Jax ever say what machine she has?) I plug the box to my computer USB port . I choose a design from my files on my computer. When you have all the designs you want up to maybe 20-25 then click write to card. Unplug the box and then take card out. Insert in your machine while it is OFF. Then turn machine on and choose the design you want to stitch from your card. PED-Basic comes with the card, box, cd and instructions, better than I can explain. Mine is old too but last year a friend of mine bought one on Amazon I think about $100. I am pretty sure you have to have a BROTHER machine though.

Please respond to people taking time to try to help you. Maybe you have tried to get your money back. If you did get it back, that’s really good. People here can advise you then what would be better for you, in your price range. I just have a 4x4 and 5x7 Brother machines. Nothing expensive but it does what I need and it’s in my price range, lower end. You don’t need to go all in expensive, just to see if you like machine embroidery. I wish and now I’m sure you do too, that you would have came here first, for advice before you bought since I’m very doubtful you can get your money back. I hope you did though. I had two machines that had the card slots and the only way I could use them was by using PED Basic software and the Card Reader. Magic Box would not work. My friend also has magic box and it is just plain obsolete. I believe if I were in your situation I would take take that machine back. I would "cut my losses" and dump that machine. If you want to enjoy machine embroidery you need a machine that will not drain you of all your money, resource and mostly time. I can't function with all that frustration. There are many entry level Sewing/Embroidery machines you can guy brand new for about $600 - that is what the Brother my friend just purchased. Make sure whatever you get that it has a USB port and don't mess around with the cards. I hope you can simplify your life by dumping that machine. Sometimes we just have to punt. I have contacted jax82 re the magic box. I think she is having prob bcause she does not have the updated drivers ...it is a difficult software to install. But I have offered my zip folder containing the drivers and installation. To be sure, I pulled out an old XP laptop yesterday and transferred 6 designs to the card via Mini Magic Box Plus, embroidered pockets for two pj tops. I have Brother200 that uses card. So I know my MB still works, tho I now use PEDesign . It's true that WinXP is the last updated Windows OS the box is compatible with. The box IS cranky....mine has affinity for a certain port on the laptops, but easy to work with once it's happily connected.

Moving this to the top. Jax82 if you read this please let us know you have found a solution to your problem.
