Just did a pre-Fourth of July checkup on my local economy by checking in at my local Dollar Store. 4:00 pm before a major let's go to the lake holiday. They were down to a very few loaves of bread (what I went for), low on beer, low on all candies and chips, and had sold out 5 boxes of Hershey's chocolate candy beside the register (one left to sell by 9:00 tonight.) The cases of bottled water were holding up. The man in line in front of me got the last bottle of sunscreen and he was so proud for finding it! The checkout line was four times longer than usual and still only one employee scheduled to run registers, although they have several. I would say if that store was any indicator, sales will be brisk with the lake crowd this week. I jumped the gun and had my mother's favorite 4th of July picnic food today - tuna salad sandwiches. So American. (My dad did not grill. We did not own one.) Hoping everyone enjoys the holiday tomorrow, good food, good friends and family, and above all, safe travels.

It's good to hear folks are celebrating and that most of the food is holding out to make it a true celebration. I hope you enjoy a peaceful and safe day along with the rest of the American Cuties.
