Merry Christmas Cuties! Three years in the making but finally done!

The reason it took so long, our daughter wanted to choose fabrics, pattern herself and it took a while. Then when I thought I was done she said she needed it King!
I first had to wait for her to finally choose a fabric line. Bought 2 layer cakes at MSQC, daily deal. She ordered one, me another. Then I waited for her decision on a pattern worrying the whole time if I could even use layer cakes when the pattern was finally chosen.
She chose Goodnight Irene from Jenny Doan at MSQC. Then I finally was able to get started bc I had the white on white.
Last year right before Christmas I told her the size it was, which was Queen and I was ready to quilt. Then she tells me she is getting a huge king bed, not the queen size I had pieced!
So… I ordered another layer cake, full price and did not want to touch it for 6 months. I had to rip off one side and foot, if I remember, before I could start again for my corners to come out right. I made the extra rows to make a 104x117 finish. Lynn one of our longarmers with a frame offered to quilt it for me.
My intentions were for the family to have a quilt I made from beginning to end. However, the more I thought about it, it seemed simple just to have Lynn quilt it. My husband agreed though Lynn would be paid. You know what I had left of the 3 layer cakes? One 2.5 inch square!
Needless to say, it’s finished, wrapped and under the tree.
The pictures show how we are really having a hard time at Show & Tell during our sewing group meeting, holding it for all to see. This is such a heavy quilt bc of its size. I’m just glad I don’t have to worry about washing it-lol-❤️Toogie

What a beautiful quilt. Your daughter will simply be thrilled! It is understandable that it isn't your favorite because of all the changes it took to complete! But, it is finished and she will love it! Well done! Merry Christmas! Hugs, Laura

What a grand effort Toogie, I feel your pain as I've made a few King size quilts, but I get my quilter to quilt them for me.
I know your daughter will love it. Merry Christmas to you and your family, love Chris

Toogie, I could not help smiling when reading the story of this work of love (and frustration). I have one daughter like that albeit less extreme.

I love your quilt!! it is so beautiful. Your daughter will be over the moon. Merry Christmas!

Thanks mops. It’s odd how you can raise all children in the same house and still they be so different in some ways. Ashley would claim them all - lol She has her King I made, Avery has her Double Slice more a Full size, Nora has used her Queen for the last 9 years, and Grayson has his deer large throw size as he is 6 foot 4. I only have Mason and Gus left in her family, but now my quilting machine is broken so I will have to bring it somewhere.
Thanks and I hope your holidays are full of love and peace.

I know what you mean by wanting to make each one of your children something they will love after you have spent all the love, effort, time and money. A person just wants to say "I'm not doing that". But we do because they are our children. I love this quilt. The pattern is something I would love so I'm glad I saw your post. This is a beautiful quilt from the heart. Merry Christmas.

It’s a YouTube video so it’s like a free pattern. Yes I want to leave them something that I made. Thanks

What a beautiful quilt! I know it was a challenge and a chore but, in the end, it is stunning! She must have been overwhelmed with the results. You are one determined and deliciated fabulous quilter! Sending Merry Christmas and happy new year wishes to you and your family, Suzanna

It’s sometimes hard to read her, but I know when she opened it she said, “Ah, my quilt”. Thanks for looking!

Thank you I always liked a quilt with small pieces but I thought this one would never end.-lol I don’t like a lot of repetition. I get bored so that’s why I refuse to buy patterns. Once I make one I want to try something different.
