HAHA Just in case you are serious (I can't tell) there are many sizes of hoops. It depends upon your machine as to which size(s)that you can use.

On my Janome the width is 5in and the height is 7in because of the way the hoop connects but since you can rotate the designs I can embroider a design which is 7in wide but not taller than 5in. Hope this helps. Becky

The first no is usually the width MM but it doesn't really matter how U do it because it can be turned any way u want to on the machine. *4U

Mary, that is a good question. When I was in college, I learned that ALWAYS it was Length x width x height, but embroidery apparently doesn't follow that rule. I even had a means of remembering....ladies wear hats. It actually can be either way if you think about it, the design can be turned to be any of 4 directions. Facing North, South, East, or West, so it could possibly be 5x7 or 7x5 , but I think typically the embroidery world views 5 as the width and 7 as the length.;)

Mary like the others have said 5 is the width and 7 is the height on mine but it can always be rotated. That is not a dumb question. ( there are no dumb questions ) I know how you feel , until recently I only could do 4x4. I now have a brother with the 5x7 hoop and I am still learning about 5x7. A flower for you.

I see you got your answer to NEVER dumb questions. My Janome has both 4x4 and 5x7 hoops. I used to use the 4x4 for almost everything but find myself using the 5x7 almost all the time now. Guess it just depends on what you're emb. on. Love your dog design. Good job.
