I've just stitched a very detailed butterfly (22,500 stitches) out on Vilene Solu-fleece - which I bought on ebay - and it stitched out fine; I'm very new to FSL so I'll be interested in other people's experiences with stabilisers for FSL too. Love and a flower from Dianne x xx

I use vilene but also use sulky with no problems.I usually use 2 layers.

I use 2 layers of H2O gone and get it at fabricland. But if you ask the fsl queen shirlene she will surley give you a great answer as she has done many fsl projects. Lisa

shirlene also told me to use 14 needle maybe that would help.

Mary someone from group also said it may not be hooped tight enough so I made a frame like peice out of felt with a cut hole in the centre to hoop it tighter. I cant take credit for this I beleive it was shirley sisson.

For the FSL tee inset I used Floriani Wet N Gone have also used Badgemaster...I had trouble with the sulky tearing away especially around the edges..

I use H2O gone and never have any trouble. you can get at some Walmarts for less than 2.00 a yard. A flower for you.

I have just started doing FSS and I use 2 layers of solvey and had no trouble with it but have found when I disolve it the stitches have not all caught and had to do some running repairs

I use heavy weight Solvy and seems to do well. Normally only one thickness.

Mary, I have used solvy, that has a mesh look to it - if it is the think clear one - it is too light weight for FSL. I usually use H2OGone from shoppersrule.com or 1-800-636-3460 - I recently found one called dissolve-away mesh from Perfect Solutions Embroidery and it works close to H2OGone - so it depends on the sale price for me! I have always felt you should use to layers of the mesh and a band new needle - I do use a size 14 most of the time - if it is really a dense design - I will put an extra layer of WSS and use a smaller needle 10-12. I hope this helps.

Hi Mary, I had a simiar problem when i first started except the solvy was gumming up in clumps, attaching itself to the needle and causing the thread to shred. Now i only use the fabric type available from ABC embroidery designs. And it is fantastic, so shear yet so strong. For FSL, I use one layer up and down; one layer side to side. For towelling i use one layer top and bottom.
It is far from cheap, but so worth the knowledge that you can totally trust this product to work and never let you down.
